    Default Greek Roman Legions

I've noticed that in Macedon you can recruit Roman Legion type troops, with long Greek names that I was too lazy to do more than glance at, very near the start of the game. As long as you have the elite building you can recruit them. Isn't this a little early for successor states to have Romanized troops? I won't be recruiting them.

I don't know about you, but the very first time I battled against the Polybian cohorts I instructed the commanders of my taxeis to study their tactics and ensured they'd be implemented. If you, sir, wish to fall beneath the eagle, that's your business. But my Macedon will see a glorious age of Hellenistic power the likes of which history could never have dreamed.

We're the rulers, bud. We decide when the reforms happen and when they don't. It's RS. Now go slaughter some Romaioi.

I'm afraid that I am too bogged down by the Spartans to be slaughtering at the moment. I will NOT adopt my tactics that took over the world to these fools. They will crash and burn.

This is actually a valid question I have in my Sparta campaign. I noticed that I nearly instantly am able to recruit rip-off Romans in my faction. What is the best composition for the Spartan/Greek factions? I do understand that army comp varies depending on enemy. Greek to Greek: hoplites, phalanxe, cavalry flanks, etc work. Against Romans... would fighting fire with fire work best? Better to blast them with pila at the same time than take a bendy spear in the rear?

The Machairaphoroi and Machairaphoroi Epilektoi would be the units you're referring to. Yeah, I'm surprised I remembered their names, too.

But actually they aren't really out of place even at the beginning, because the Machairaphoroi are based on the Roman Hastati and Machairaphoroi Epilektoi are based on the Roman Principes, neither of which the Romans use anymore in favor of the Polybian Cohorts. Basically, the two Greek legionary-type units are Greek versions of obsolete Roman troop types no longer used by the Romans.

I hope I explained that coherently. I need sleep.

Well, i didnīcheck them in fight against polybian cohorts, but they donīt stand long against hamata or segmentata legions either. Unfortunatly even heavy shock infantry like thorakitai argyraspides canīt hold out in 1:1 combat. I really wish, the greeks states, especially macedon, the ptolemaics and seleucids would get nearly equal troops later in the campaign, but thats impossible because all unit slots are already used.
