tilde key/console problem

I just want to tinker around with it but for some reason my ~ doesn't make the console show. I've tried looking in keyboard settings to change the binding key but I can't find it. Can anyone give me a hand? I'm running Vista 64 bit and in the old surrectum I was able to change the console button but I can't find it in this new one.

Re you using a laptop keyboard? if soyou might need to press "fn"+"§". I hope that helps.

yes I am using a laptop keyboard and fn + ~ doesn't work. Any other ideas?

No. There might be a file where you can remap the buttons. Try TWC's RTW tech forum. They should know.
O and post the solution here if you find one.

on a uk keyboard the first key under the esc should have 3 symbols on it 1 looking like this ` another like this ¬ and another like this ¦. That should work.

I found this from the forums. Use it to change the console key. It helped me too.

first, you go to the map "data".
now go to the map "text".
use a standard text editor (like notepad/word etc.) to open "descr_shortcuts"
go down until u see "misc." (at the start of the line)
there should be a line with "show_console" here, and it says "hidden" behind it.
remove "hidden" and save the file

start Rome: Total War, go to controls and press reset to default
there should now be a line "show debug console" in the list of misc. controls
set whatever key u like to it, press the key during the game, and there you go, a nice console
