    Default Huge City workaround

Can you get around the huge city restriction (certain provinces only) by moving your capital?

If so, you could simply move your capital to whichever province has the population necessary, cue up the huge wall, then move your capital elsewhere if you like. Could get huge cities everywhere this way.

Is there at all a restriction on how many Huge Cities you can have? I have never heard of that. If it's true, I am would very much like to hear if there is a work-a-round!

My understanding is its a RR/RC thing, and the restriction is in the building.txt file based on "and hidden_resource capital". The question I have is, is that based on the current location of faction capitals, which can be moved, or is there a line somewhere in a file defining which regions are 'capitals' and which not for the whole campaign?

If its based on the region being currently the Capital of a faction, and it restricts only the building of the Huge City (ie. actually having it available to add to build queue), then you should be able to get around the restriction in game.

RR/RC questions should be asked in the RR/RC Subforum.
As for your question, no, changing Capitols won't change which cities can be build Huge Walls. The Hidden_Resource Capitol is just a name, and doesn't directly translate to "This is the Capitol!". There are also some select cities that aren't capitols with the same hidden resource, allowing them to build the Huge Walls.

Ah. So cities like Constantinople, Rome, London, Venice and Cairo, that were historically "huge" and significant, can become Huge Cities in-game, while others, like Nyköping and Iasi, that never held any true importance, can not. Is that a correct assumption?

    Yeppers. That is correct.

I feel this is an unnecessary restriction which must give bias to certain factions over others. Can someone just post a list of settlements capable of huge city size

    +1

I wasn't aware that only certain cities were capable of becoming Huge.

That explains why a lot of my cities never grew past "Large" size despite my best efforts to grow them

This is the list. Looks to be the starting Capital for most factions plus a few others.

Can remove restrictions to other cities by modifying the export_descr_buildings.txt file, remove the line "and hidden_resources capital" from each region you want to be able to build huge cities. (save a copy of the original file somewhere, in case you hose it up).

BTW, isn't everyone that's playing 6.3 right now playing RR/RC due to the option to disable it being bugged?

Only RR is bugged. RC is enabled by default.

I found the export_descr_buildings text file in ss6.3's data folder. But when I searched it for "and hidden_resources capital" which it said couldn't be found I tried just searching for "and hidden_resources"and all I found where lines looking like this.

    recruit_pool "Pechenegs" 1 0.25 2 1 requires factions { cumans, } and hidden_resource cumans

Really new to editing game files any help much apprechiated. : )

These are the hidden resources in SS6.3

hidden_resources Constable Iqta Constantinople Hashishim Khassaki river crusader crusade jihad horde_target no_pirates no_brigands wonder1 wonder2 wonder3 wonder4 wonder5 wonder6 wonder7 wonder8 venice scotland england france portugal spain aragon moors milan papal_states sicily hre norway denmark poland russia lithuania cumans kwarezm turks jerusalem prussia egypt byzantium hungary kievan_rus ireland
    capital is not among them.

if you look in the maps/base folder in the descr_regions you can see which regions have which hidden_resources. None have capital in SS6.3.

So, my efforts at growing Damascus and Alexandria are completely wasted after 17,000, except for the increased tax income (but in return increased squalor and unrest..). Guess my chivalrous generals can do better than wait for an upgrade that will never come then. :/

Are you playing 6.2 with the latest RR/RC Compilation? If not, then this have no relevance to you, which is also why this topic probably should be moved from the main page.

@Callawyn; yeah, 6.3 does include RR/RC, but not all changes, and not the latest version, so the whole Huge City isn't included with 6.3 (that I've noticed)

Aah, so since I'm playing 6.3, with RR/RC, I can still get Huge Cities out of Alexandria, Damascus and Antioch (and all the rest..)?

Yep, precisely. To make 100% sure, just hover your mouse over the current population. It'll state something along "XXXXX population required for next level".
As long as this message appears, then the settlement can still grow another level.
Also, just check the building browser. If the Huge Walls appear, then you'll be able to get a Huge City in that settlement.
