*shocked* ladders pulled down!!

I played a custom battle as England today just testing how stakes work at the gates after see a poll involving stakes in recent days. I was the defender of the city and they had 4 ladders and 1 siege tower. All the enemies are routed. But 3 sword and buckler men from the enemy still stuck between the ladders and the wall. It seems that they are doing some leg exercise. So I tried to take them down with archers. I bring my retinue longbowmen in front of them with FIRE AT WILL on. But they don't fire. I tried ordering them to manually fire the enemies. But the BOW & ARROW cursor didn't appear but on the ladders. So I started to shoot the ladders hoping some arrows will hit the stuck enemy. The archers mysteriously turn the FLAMING AMMO on themselves without my command and start shooting at the sky!!! I'm not joking. I'm serious. So I pick up the billmen and mouse over the ladders, there SWORD cursor appear so I right-clicked. The billmen started to move then line up a column under a single piece of ladder and started the FIGHTING animations (polearm- animation) it seems that they are fighting each other for the lining up. Suddenly a ladder fell slowly upon them and some get killed. I had felled 2 ladders!!

Wow, it's amazing how so many people seems to be unaware of that. I guess you usually don't have even time or opportunity to destroy ladders so many people don't know about them.

I have tested another thing. Light men-at-arms stab the siege tower until it fell but it was not burning of course.

Huh...how long does it take and can you do it when there are people on the ladders?

That's crazy! I had no idea it was possible. I knew you could climb down an enemy ladder from your own wall but was never aware you could knock them over.

It's funny the game won't allow you to just push ladders away from the top of a wall if they are empty. My ladder falls pretty easily while I'm putting up Christmas lights each winter

You need to attack them with melee units or siege weapons. But I don't know if flaming arrows have effect on them.

Yes I discovered this one by accident after about a year of playing the game.

Wow, how sad is that........I had no idea they could run with ladders. Now I feel like an idiot.

Tear down ladders and smash up towers with infantry, sweet tip, although only after all the Ai cav has run in to my stakes

I had also found you could destroy laddes a while ago but never realy used it.
It takes too long, you have to be on the outside of the wall and some of your men always get killed (no matter what class or armor they have).

I've always thought that it woulc be nice to destroy ladders from the top of the wall. Also for melee units to destroy rams and siege towers without taking ages....

As praefectus mentioned above u can rip ladders down with siege weapons. I had a strange incident, when i managed to burn down all the ai´s towers and to force them to drop their ram too. Their whole infantry started to climb up their 4 ladders at my wall. As far as i remember they had about 8 or 9 companies of infantry. Lucky me the mass of infantry got stuck on/infront of the ladders so i could flank them with my balista and start shooting at the lined up infantrymen. Oh yes u are right it was a bloodbath, but only till i accidently (till then i wasnt aware that i could) shot down their 4 laders and my 2 silver ribbon balista got puched in the face by the remaining infantry.

didnt know ladders could run :O. Altho thats maybe bcs i dont usually play ofensive sieges, just wait all turns or autoresolve easy ones.


For me, at least on vanilla, pulling down enemy ladders sucked. Very hard to do, buggy movements and many times it fell over my units and killed half of them.


Another trick its to destroy your own laddered/tower walls with trebuchets xD Ladders will fall and enemys die too. Did that once or twice at old times.

cannon/gun towers do a better job One battle, one of me towers took out 3 of the 4 ladders on one section of wall, i was like WHHHHAAAAAAA!?!?!?
