    Default Assassins

Whoa, what happened? My assassins are worthless (unlike the AI assassins). Even so, I use to be able to train them up with sabotage againt enemy cities, especially vunerable were the temples, to give a novice assassin a chance to build up expereience.

Now they are impotent and worthless. What are they good for?

Use them against captains, buildings at the beggining, and eventually they'll gain more experience. This however doesn't mean they'll kill everyone you want when you want I believe the chances of success have been lowered, but enemy's assassins will still be a pain in the ass when they start killing your family members...

I'd suggest that your army include a spy, an assassin and a diplomat. The more the merrier.

The spy/assassin will help prevent the general/family member from being killed and the diplomat will make the army more expensive to bribe!

The same is true for settlements.

Oh, if you're wondering what the AI diplomats are doing that wierd animation outside your settlements - they are trying to bribe them!

While I don't doubt the truth these effects would have, I am left wondering where the money will come from to fund these assets for every army and many settlements.

LOL Sparta for me alone gives me 20,000+ per turn I think that can fund these assets just fine.
Thats not including five other cities giving me 5000+ per one, now I have one city with a -9000+ and another one with -140+ LOL, but all in all I now have a tresury of well over 60,000+ I think I'm doing just fine with funds...

As you expand out of your homelands things become a bit more expensive.

Try to not have any more than 50K in your tresury at the end of the turn as that usually can result in bad retinues/traits for your governors which leads to bad management and corruption.

Assassins are not useless at all I just had mine take out a Macedonian family member with 9% success rate and it was a newbie assassin. It does however seem like the success rate for assassinating captains has been lowered, in RS1 a normal success rate for killing a captain was around 70 to 80% and now it stands at around 30 to 40% for a newbie assassin.

The easiest and safest way is to train assassins up against captains and some buildings in settlements.

i find other agents very nice targets. there's loads of AI assassins with 0 level, good odds to kill them -> 2 birds with one stone.
you kill the assassins while making your own much better

Who is General Failure and why is he reading my disc?

It use to be that way! You had a 95% chance against another assassin. Now I am seeing 20% or less and after a couple of failed attempts, 10% or less.

Answer too whats a good way to combat enemy assassins, use a diplomat and bribe them. They will cost you about 1000 to 1800 to make them switch sides. LOL I never make assassins, I only bribe them lol.
