    Default army upkeep

Now in my macedon campaign Each of my cities are paying huge amounts of army upkeep despite the fact that i havent got that many units, how is the army upkeep spread between cities? And why sometimes do i still have to pay for units that ive disbanded?

Army upkeep is paid by the settlements based on the proportion of inhabitants. So, a settlement with a large population will pay more towards the army and navy upkeep than a settlement with a lower population.

I think the upkeep of the family members is also included in the total.

How do you know that you're paying for disbanded units? When I disband a unit you can see the settlement's income change on the campaign map. The only way is to look at the settlement details screens before and ater the unit is disbanded.

I have since noticed this only happens when a random unit is disbanded and thnks for the thing about spreading upkeep i just addumed and have assumed for the past 7years that the upkeep is paid for from where they were recruited.

If you disband a unit in a region you control your population should go up in the settlement by the number of men left in the unit.

So, if you want to boost a settlement's population the easiest way is to disband units there. Some players will recruit the cheapest unit from a large settlement and move them to a settlement that needs a population boost and disbands them.

Make sure that you have enough money ready to build the next level government building - as your populatin approaches the limit you may experience unrest and need ot build the governemnt building ASAP.
