Default Do you use the tools of Philosophy in your daily life?

Stefan Molyneux, host of the popular philosophical network Freedomain Radio, said reading about Philosophy itself, and not doing it - Is like reading an excercise manual while not excercising. Therfor it's kinda like discrediting the wonders and products of philosophy.

So, how do you really use your phlosophy in daily life? Just talk about it, or do you take it step further. I would just like to hear what you do, or if not, why?

One example as food for thought: If you find abuse at home to be bad, do you do something when you see it in other homes?

    ~Wille
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Of course not! As a Buddhist(we are very philosophical and know a lot about life) I believe just because someone does something, it doesn't mean you get the right to do it. Even if it might seem fun and funny don't do it! I do this with loads of things and it may seem hard at first but gets way better than it would of done those bad things. Just as Karma says.

Now, I definitely would do something. First, I would start by telling the abuser to stop and matter what he did I would keep and telling him/her the stop (even if the punched me I would continue because by having true courage you can do a lot and this doesn't mean getting up and fighting the bully). If I was really worn out from him punching me then I would be forced to pput my monestry training to use.

It's not really a philosophical problem but more of whether you do your duty and a call the police or not.

Philosophical would be to ask what are value judgments? How do we explain moral choices? etc.

Example: What do I exactely mean with the word duty?

A question to be philosophical would include to ask and to investigate your own term(s) of duty.

    Good evening gentlemen,

If I might interject with a few thoughts; a truly philosophical and practical application might be a creative one such as aesthetics, hermeneutics and generic theories about the ground or principles of an organisational approach to a project. There are philosophical discussions surrounding mod projects, one might say “we should focus on creating a more exciting and fast passed game” and another might disagree saying “we should instead focus on historical accuracy and deepen the atmosphere of the game”. A debate then ensues about the merits and demerits of either approach. In any form of coding and scripting logic is involved, and in graphics a great deal of aesthetics is involved. Lastly as any mod leader will know there is the task of translating various disciplines into a cross referential whole which eventually arrived at a general mod vision, this fundamentally requires the ability to identify the fundamentals of each area in such a way as to allow all efforts in all departments to match up.

I know I used the modding example as a way of showing the everydayness philosophy, but any philosopher worth his salt will be able to demonstrate how absolutely anything can be reasonably interpreted as having some philosophical interest and input.

    Regards,

A General is not so much blamed for making trial of an ill-digested project, as he will be for the obstinate continuing in the same. Therefore the speediest leaving of any such enterprise doth excuse the rashness which might be imputed to the beginning.
