    Default WarMap: Released

    BI-WarMap II

    WarMap III

    ----------------------------------------------------------

WarMap I mod for RTW v1.5
    by IceTorque

    Features:
    1. A very large scale strat map.
Map regions size in pixels is 510 x 337.
    For comparison: vanilla 255 x 156 and mundus magnus 384 x 234.
Map size has been increased almost entirely by scale, with only slight
extensions to the north and east to accomodate Scotland and Bactria.

    2.Movement points/traits have been enhanced.

3.A Homeland and capitol city Zone Of Reruitment.

4.Settlements spread out to enhance more field battles and less sieges.

5.Elite units do not become extinct with their factions demise
they simply fight for their new masters.

    6.Decisive naval battles.

This ZOR ensures that the AI factions develop into several major powers
and NOT just one superpower, producing countless armies each turn.
Also as your empire grows so does game difficulty by emulating the age old
military problem of extended supply lines.

And many more tweaks to ensure the least micro-management,
and the most consistently challenging Campaigns and Battles.

    Update WarMap v1.4 changes:
    1.Improved coastline.
    2.Two more regions in Germania.
    3.Land bridges removed
4.Wonders and slave resource icon added.

Download WarMap v1.4 for RTW v1.5
    http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=767

    Update: BareBones v1.4
    1.Improved coastline
    2.Two more regions in Germania
    3.Land bridges removed
4.Wonders and slave resource icon added.
    5.Mercenaries added.

Download BareBones v1.4 for RTW v1.5.
    http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=772

Note* BareBones uses just the map files no adjustments have been included to
compensate for the larger map scale. As this version was released by request
for those that wanted just the map to add/create their own mod.

Wow. This map is beautiful. Making it bigger does have the advantage that though having many regions on the map you will never have this "siege-fest" we know from other mods.

    Thank you.

    You should probably delete map.rwm.

Boudicca thank you for saying thank you.

{nf}remix The mod has a blank rwm file to automatically overwrite your existing rwm file.
you need a clean install of RTW v1.3 NOT 1.2 or BI. i hope this helps.

IceTorque, may I ask you how much time you have spent on this? This must have been an immense task. I think mundus magnus 2 will not be needed any more now that we have your map.

Now all I need is to find a mod that changes units for Vanilla RTW 1. 3. and then it will be a big fun.

I would like to cry out franatically for your work but the expieriences of the past have some influence. Therefore i will first try it and look how long it works without ctd.
But what i see is a pleasure and let me thank you for that incredible task!

Some ideas, you have mostly simplified the province setup in gaul but added some more in britain.
If you agree, it would be wonderful to see in your next version:
The Sequani province on the northern side of the alps (Geneva) which is a historical "must have" thing.
Britania superior should be changed to get the important province for the icenae.
Very important, ireland must be changed to have two prrovinces for vanilla time frame, to four provinces if it where for BI.

maybe you can have a look at my own setup for orientation, in the attached file.
It is the provincial campaign which i use with rtw1.3

I had a similar problem expect it didn't actually ctd, just returned me to the select provincial campaign screen. Where is map.rwm?? I looked around and there's the empty one in the provincial campaign folder, and also one in the 'base' folder??

I think I've tried deleting both (one at a time) and it didn't work.

I was using 1.5 if that matters.

Boudicca, i would guess i have spent over 200 hours making the map, and i admit that on more than one occasion i felt like giving up due to the enormous task of building it from scratch.
But when i read your nice post saying thanks it made it all worth it knowing that at least one person likes it.

Yea, i notice that the legions start at post marian, and a big army, thats great. Implementing 0 turn recruitment would work good for this map imo.

Man, that's the best map I've seen so far! Brilliant work!

Are you going to make a BI version using the same terrain?

webbird i am looking over your files now and thanks for your interest and suggestions v2.0 will be much improved due to your input.
With regards to the number of settlements my main aim was to achieve a balance between factions and the right mix of battles. i.e. Not too many nor too few.

{nF}remix, I was never a big fan of units being outdated during the game, as in MTW i would sit and wait unitl the high period came around so i could get the cool units then i would start playing. and my aim was for the game to start off relatively easy and become harder as the game progresses so thats my reasoning behind those changes.
as for 0 turn recruitment i will give it a try.

LordSaradin, I hope you like it.

Atilla Relaoded thanks for your kind words. as for a BI version i have been thinking about it and it's a possibility.

I am downloading your mod right now.... but i agree to have much space for field battles is a clear improvement and it should never be so crowded with provinces like other mods of the past have it.
But some major historical settlements should be included when having ceasar`s gallic war in mind. The sequani province was a major problem for the helveti tribe and the "gateway to central gaul" with geneva.
Also your Alps are beautyful and impressive and i hope there is enough "green space" to place the strategical important settlement Gergovia again.
Thank you for your interrest in my sugestions!

I have noticed that some regions are far too near ro each other. For example the Sht Italy and Epirus or Sicily and Carthago.Could you adjust the map a bit?

  19. #19

    webbird, I totally agree.

Praetorian, yes v2.0 will have many adjustments. but due to geographical limitations even on this large scale map it is impossible to have all settlements evenly spaced without drastically unbalancing the game.

Roberto, you need an unmodded version of RTW v1.3 also be sure to install to your RTW/data folder and NOT your RTW /bi/data folder. I hope this helps.

Let me tell you my thoughts after looking into your files and let me be honest.
You have NOT made a new map for Rtw 1.3 which is useful for all who like to play the game because you created not only the map but combined it with a complete custom game system.
Maybe that system is wonderful, maybe it`s also exciting for some expierienced rtw gamers but for sure not everybody`s taste.
The combination with your custom game system is from my point of view, one step ahead to much for Version 1.0 of your great map.
If you had first published that map playable instantly with vanilla rtw1.3, independend of personal integrated custom units or skins,
you had published a great gift for 99% of all RTW gamers.
If you had published thereafter the version with integrated custom gaming system, you would have gifted 99% of all expierienced gamers which exactly search for something like this.
I think this version is useful now for 55% of all who download it. And that`s maybe not the kind of popularity, your work for sure deserves.
Also it`s not very motivating and satisfying for your self when you publish a project like this which has cost you very much of your free time in the last month and you see only a little part of the entire comunity with a thankful shining in they eyes.

Personally i am unhappy with it, will not install it, or have to invest some more dozends of workhours to make it independend of your gaming system and useful
for my own unit`s setup. Or i have to spend 2.5GB of my harddisk for the forth copy of rtw on my system to just play and see your mod.
But allways with thoughts like "What have i to do to use all my loved skins and custom units on that map and get rid of recruitable greek mercenaries in celtic forrests (kidding here!) ??" in mind.
That takes away some of the joy i could have with your mod.
I hope you can see my coments as constructive critics, and also i hope you have an early version of this mod ready which can be used for those who think like me, because i WANT TO PLAY THAT COOL MAP TOO!! realy! :O)
