I never heard about the killer assassins taking out the Spartan family in such a way before - but it's happening in a couple of campaigns (including thedudederek):

I have noticed that too while playing as Sparta, Makedon and the Free Greeks seem to enjoy sending hoards of well trained assassins to whittle down my family members. I havn't really noticed it on any other campaign though.
Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo.
I saw that in the Forum. Difficult to say what could be done about it. SwHunter never reported a problem with this, and he ran like 43 Spartan campaigns. So it has to be an aberration. I would suggest people recruit Generals.

What engine did they use?
I just have RTW, i don't have bi.
But i never ran across this either playing Mace, or Free Greeks, or Perg.
I have gone as far to the date 610, and i didn't find this.
Of course after up dates which killed my campaign,i had to start over.
right now I'm on the date 578,so i will keep an eye out for it.
But never have I lost a family member yet.

The Greek City states do send assassins to destroy buildings and kill generals/family members. I had them doing this in my Carthage campaign.
I've posted in the main forum it's best to keep spies, assassins and diplomats with an army stack and also in settlements.

Couldn't we increase the prices for Macedon and the Free Greeks to recruit assassins in the mod foldered Sparta campaign?

Unfortunately, no. There is just one price for all. It may be possible to make the Spartan family harder to kill, however.

In my campaign it was a series of bad luck. My family members started developing traits that lower personal security and when I tallied it up I think the second son of the king had -4 personal security. The enemy assassin was from the Free Greeks and he had 9 or 10 subterfuge. I did get the option to adopt a new son at the end of every turn, but I was role playing alittle and the rule was to not accept outside members (all female children meant the death of that branch). There were other assassins, but most of them were either unsuccessful or were executed. I uninstalled the beta that had my campaign on it because I wasn't getting the SVN options when I right clicked anymore so the save is gone forever.
Just a suggestion, but would it be possible to kill off a Greek Assassin if he gets a certain level of subterfuge? Limiting it to 5 or 6 would help keep the family members alive.
In my Carthaginian campaignassasin killed Hannibal which I so painstakingly saved from Italy! It`s awfully... I never see such effectively assasination.... Good work... now I must sent at any armee spy and my assasin for antiterrorist working...

Do what must be and let be what will
I believe I had this problem before in a beta Spartan campaign, but not to such an extent that I lost the campaign (I believe 2 members were assassinated in 2 turns or something like that, pretty early on in the campaign).
Strangely, it only happens with the Greek factions. Barbarians and Romans aren't that fond of assassins it seems.
aaaah, those backstabbing greeks![]()
