    Default Why no Tom Bambadil?

Hope I spelt his name right. Anyhow, why no Tom Bambadil? He should own a small territory that can only be entered by the non-evil faction units and cannot be taken by any faction. Maybe a "healing" effect for "good faction" units or Generals. Just a thought.

I don't think a "healing" effect is possible, and it wouldn't really provide anything to the game.

Tom Bambadil had no role in the war, he didn't show much interest in anything happening outside of his forest abode.
I think Gandolf said something about how Tom's patch of forest would remain the only part of the world not controlled by Sauron if Sauron ever regained control of the Ring.
Either way, Tom never contributed to the story and doesn't really make sense to add him as a faction with a settlement.
Would be interesting to make him a custom unit in Custom Battle. Dunno what he would do though, not much of a fighter, maybe give a very large morale boost and have a song power to make enemy rout, I mean dance.

Tom was added to the story to act as an unknown entity, it is never explained exactly what Tom is or even if Tolkien himself knew.

Because the unit quotes would be REALLY annoying.

It could be added as an easter egg of some sort. Tom Bombadil is a great character from the books. Kind of a shame he isnt somewhere in the mod.

BTW - I just rediscovered M2TW and this mod is amazing! All I can say is....

Adding him in a Total War game is utterly pointless.
It's only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.

Nah, Tom Bombadil wouldn't even be good in the Fellowship Campaign, seeing as the FC is completely based on the movie. (It skips the Old Forest and Tom Bombadil part)
New website for AtC (Advance to Combat, formerly known as Nations at War) Check it out here! We average 155 unique hits a day! AtC is a mod for Empire Total War focusing on implementing modern-day units into custom battles.

It was a total disappointment that they didnt have Tom Bombadil in the movies either..... Although he wasnt integral to the story, it would have been cool to see him on the big screen. I wonder who would have made a good Tom B.? Jim Carrey?

He could be represented as a building in a province. I feel TATW could use far more of those to make each city a bit more unique and less generic. Maybe also being an opportunity to pass some lore on them.

We could give each city unique features and tendencies this way. That's my very distant submod idea.;-)

That's a very good idea actually?
Would give barrow-downs a unique feel?

EDIT: Dosn't the area around the town in barrowdowns already have a costum battle map(with Tom's house)?

Might be some random house. I once fought with a church in the middle of the map in Mordor... I don't see it in Custom Tiles...

Not much lore behind Tom Bombadil, really - he's just some guy based on a doll. At the very most he's a figurative representation of the 'soul' of Middle-Earth, the natural world, but Two Towers introduced the Ents for that job.

I stand by my own personal assertion that the four Hobbits were going through serious mushroom withdrawl at the time, and hallucinated Tom. And what happens? They wake up in the middle of nowhere without their clothes. And they never speak of it again. Makes perfect sense to me.

In any case, I don't think he'd care about the war. I don't think he'd care about anything, unless you entered his boundaries and made trouble, at which case he'd either let you get eaten by trees or he'd hide his stuff until you went away.

I can't even remember how often it has happened to me!

You could just make Tom a one man unit from the hobbit models, but as many have said, to what end? He would not enrich the game in any way that I can think of, otherwise I would spend five minutes putting him in game.

He would be fun to use in custom battles though. Maybe you could make a dancing animation for him.

I think Tolkien fielded a lot of letters asking questions about Tom, and he just tried to make it generally known, no, Tom's not a Valar or The One or anything like that, he's just a guy I made up, he's no-one.

Tom's a holdover that was never dropped from the original drafts of when Tolkien was still writing The Hobbit 2 rather than The Lord of the Rings, I think.
