    Default Unit Match-ups

I would like to know what each basic unit type (ex. light infantry) is best fighting against... what each basic unit type is weakest against, and i'm hoping one of you intelligent people can point me in the right direction

It's probably best to take it faction-by-faction. What units do you have, and then how should they be used?

I'm actually talking about the first battle in the S.P.Q.R. campaign, against king phyrros on h/h, 2 samnites, 2 triarii, 2 equites, 3 principes, 1 hastatai, 1 auxillia, 2 velites and 2 other missile units i'm not sure about vs. lots of spearmen, phalanx, mixed calvary and of course the elephants and a couple of missile troops too... I know i must be sounding like a total noob but that's okay because nobody has asked this question before me, i know because i searched high and low here and on google before i made this topic

    Welcome to the forum

First of all, keep in mind that you are supposed to loose this battle

    1. Velites and missiles should be used to kill thoose pesky elephants, and to harrass the flanks of the phalanxes. Javelins are your only way to kill the elephants.

    2. Hastati and Principes together with the samnites are the main battleline, so keep it flexible.

    3. Triarii are the reserves, send them in to help wavering troops, or to protect a flank. Usefull against flanking cavalry.

    4. Your cavalry are really bad, so only charge the enemy in the back, or already engaged enemy cavalry. Best used to chase down archers/scirmishers.

    Hope that helps

Oh, and reading the unit descriptions will help out as well as educate you

Yep. You can do everything right and still lose the battle. The only really consistent way to win on Medium is an exploit - anchor your flanks against the edge of the battlefield so Pyrrhos' cavalry isn't as effective.

Once you get your troops trained and upgraded, you can stand up to Pyrrhos.
