    Default Advice on New Campaign

I have become bored again with another campaign. I want to try a new faction out. I have played England, Portugal, Aragon, Genoa, Byzantine, Novgorod, Kiev. I don't like being the Islamic factions because they are funner to fight...

I use BGR. Ayudame por favor.

EDIT: I might play an Islamic faction. I prefer ranged combat versus melee. I also prefer quality over quantity.

I'd love to 'Ayudayou' and suggest a Nordic game. My personal favourite faction are the Norwegians. Great flavour, great infantry and FANTASTIC starting position. You can attack the Danes on for the gates to Germany or you can project power through naval might to just about everywhere on the map. I've played a game where i RP'd as an old Viking chieftain, raiding and sacking settlements along the coast only to retreat again and strike futher down the coast. GREAT FUN!

Islamic factions have some of the best ranged units in the game, and in my opinion, better than England's, as the composite bow shoots about the same distance even though it doesn't have AP. But most of Egypt and Turkey's bowmen are mounted, so that makes up a lot of the disadvantage. Horse archers are amazing.

If you like ranged combat, you should use islamic factions because they usually have good ranged troops, either horse archers or foot archers. Most European faction don't have a great selection of ranged unit ( except the English), but if you want a challenging campaign, i recommend the Holy Roman Empire, their position in central Europe always provide a fun campaign because you will always be surrounded no matter how you expand.

In my own HRE campaign, VH/VH. I conquered all of italy and scandinavia about 80 turns in, and is at war with the french, the english and the scots on my western front, suddenly the poles and the hungarians broke our alliance, and marched into eastern germany, now i am sandwiched and at war with all my neighbors, with about 15 stacks full of french/english/poles/hungarians ready to attack me. If you like situations like this, where you might actually loose, definitely try out the germans, great rooster and the AI will always surprise you and give you a fun and challenging campaign.

Or he could do the Teutonic Knights, they're in an even worse position than the HRE. One enemy along with 3 potential ones right next to them. Denmark is just about the only one of your neighbors who won't attack you.

France has sick late missile troops. Though it might be hard to pass up on all that shiny cavalry...

Sick as in awesome or sick as in their most deadly weapon is projectile vomit?

Cause they have longbowmen. And also mounted longbowmen.

I usually try to pick a faction with poor missile units as that gives the most challenging game. Ever since seeing the 300 spartans (the original) as a child I liked the idea of a brave swordsmen being wittled down by superior forces of opposing enemy archers.
