    Default Malware warning!

I downloaded the files for Roma Surrectum 2 last night but in the process of transferring them to another hard drive this morning my Prevx virus scan brought up a warning of medium risk Malware for rsi.setup.exe.

I deleted the file and downloaded it again from another host but when I scanned the file the same warning came up again. What could be causing this?, its never happened before for any such file. Is any body else had this come up? I can't wait to install this mod have waited for ages but this has put me off doing so.

Yes, I also had that from Norton (I don't recall from which source it was from - it may have been filefront) - simply download the file from yet another host and see what happens.

Some anti-virus systems don't like exes.

I'd upload the setup I've used but it appears to have been removed from my folder.....

I have downloaded this file from all 3 hosts and when scanned it brings up the same warning Prevx has not given me any false warnings before and from what you say Brusilov my confidence is shaken. Is there a way to install without the file as the actual mod files are fine?

Thanks for the offer AotxLoGiX but if you got it from either of the three host the result would be the same.

The file is safe - it's your anti-virus that's causing the problem. I've not said that the files contain malware.

I could not by-pass Norton blocking the file so I just downloaded it from a different host.

    There is no other alternative.

If your anti virus was blocking the file and my anti virus is telling me to delete it immediately, how can you be so confident that it's safe? I use this computer for business and keep it clean of any doubtful files. I know that it is possible to get false warnings but two leading brands giving the same warning seems pretty strange to me.

It would be a great disappointment if I am not confident enough to install this mod because of this file but guess I can't if there is no way round installing it.

Virus scanner can't see in a Exe so it sends a WARNING that it may contain malwar

Its your choice if you want to or not but many anti virus programs are made to look through ALL files and with .exe's its a program which changes files on a pc and many anti viruses dont like that

Get Malwarebytes for free and do a manual check in the RS2 folder. When Malwarebytes says its safe and the anti-virus says its not, it is safe.

It's a false positive. I've had this happen with a number of mod downloads in the past (an earlier version of Aristeia was the most recent instance).

Thanks guys, from what everybody says it is most likely a false positive but even so I will still scan again using some other software such as your recommendation Thorn777
