You may as well put the biggest unit sizes which would be huge or unit size: 160 in my preferences file. Its as close to realistic that you are going to get. Im just waiting for the day when Rome2 is released and we will be able to have 1000 men per unit like we can in Napoleon total war.
The 'preferences.txt' file in the preferences folder. Or you can use the launcher. Or in-0game on the Options menu - graphic settings.
Beware that each campaign you've launched has it's own preferences folder and there is also one at the 'game folder' level.
I'd change one and see how it performs.

yeah, get rid of those green arrow-markers because the game is so unrealistic with them being underneath your men.

Thanks Brusilov, you solved the problem
I always go for the largest size that is available and my system can handle.
Even when I had a machine that could not handle max settings I usually had unit size on Huge and cut back on the eye-candy settings. I prefer epic to eye-candy.

Nice, next problem solved. The last thing to fix, I can't deactivate the green arrwowmarkers for the units..
Where are you looking?
If you use the launcher there is an option there when you select 'Edit RSII preferences'. If you change that remember to save before you quit.
One thing to consider is that I don't think you can change these settings unless you've actually launched a campaign with that faction. The reason is that the file is not created unless the game has been launched. If you use a working RTW then the folder and file will already be there.
The thing to do is to change it in the 'preferences.txt' in the preferences folder.
DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:TRUE
The thing that I did prior to installing RSII was to change the values I wanted to in this folder and they are then used for each 'play' version when they are launched.
The other thing to realize is that there will already be a 'preferences; folder in any campaigns that you've launched already (that is in each of the 'Play_' folders).
