Greetings,

I recently tried downloading the cab files and no matter where I try to download the files when I click open it doesnt open...the screen goes wait and nothing shows up. When I tried again and chose to save it and cope it to my RTW folder it didnt show up as a Winrar file. Along with that the RS2setup.exe file when i double clicked it to see if that worked asked me with what program I wanted to open it with.


Please help.

when you download the RS2setup it doesnt come up as it should when you save it edit its name to RSII_setup.exe and it will recignize it as an exe file

Ok thanks I'll see if that works. Do you know anything about the cab files? I have winrar so I don't know why the files won't open...

You do not open the cab files. You run the installer and it will take the data from the cab files.

Exactly - that's what the install instructions say.

Also beware of renaming files - if you've not set your folder options up to not 'Hide extensions for known file types' it may already have an 'exe' extension and then you've renamed it to have the wrong name - which strangely enough messes up the install.....

Hmm. I downloaded all the files and put them into a seperate folder ran the install and directed to RTW. Everything went fine but when i went to run the game it said that the game wasn't installed into the Rome Total War folder...even though the directory had it preselected.

Unfort on a side note I uninstalled RTW to try again and now I cant even install RTW as when I pop the CD into the drive nothing comes up. Even manually trying to install the game windows couldn't find the installation. I'm at a lose right now.

First of you should have checked known issues thread my fix for your launcher problem was in there posted by a mod
With your new problem you may want to try and delete the regedit file of rome total war as sometimes it is not deleted in uninstall and so it wont allow you to reinstall it and thuse your computer believes rome total war is still installed.

If you are refering to the target and start in lines making sure they matched up. I checked before posting in here. Both matched up.

As for the new problem I'll look into that file. Problem is when I pop the cd in not even the menu comes up which seems odd if the computer feels the game is still installed.

No Im refering to if the launcher had adminastative right and when you pop in the cd go to computer and then run the disk throught there

Oh, but I thought that was if you were able to play the game...."You are able to play the game, but a window with a red cross and 12 appears"

I'm not able to play the game and a window with a red cross and 12 does not appear. Just an error message.

yeah same happened sometimes its a red x sometimes its the messages

Ok thanks, I'll keep that in mind now that I know.

Now about running the CD through my computer. How do you do that? I tried to open CD Drive and it said to insert a disc even though I put it in there.

Maybe you should try and clean your disk then try it when its in if it doesnt auto start click start computer and then click on the cd drive below your hard drives

Ok. I got RTW to reinstall, everything is brand new and clean. I try to install RSII again, the installer points it to RTW directory all I do is click ok. Short cut pops up and I make the "start in" and "Target" line go to the same folder. Also there is no "run as admin" option. I try it with all profiles and I still get this.

Are you running on xp?

Well in the install thread they said not to install the mod on program files with xp due to problems so install outside of program files then try and it should work

Alright, do I need to uninstall/reinstall RTW again? or can I just copy the RTW folder, paste it, rename it and direct the installer to the new folder?

Yah you need a clean install of the game outside but try copy and pasting first it may work and remember if you do copy paste change the launchers target properties
