    Default Unit Pools

I just downloaded the newest version of Stainless Steel, and I have to ask; why are the unit pools for nearly everything so damn small at the castle? I can recruit one unit of Urban Spearman a turn. I can't raise an army like this.

That's why you have to build advanced barracks or something to maximize your unit pools.

    and the waiting game begins

Yes, that is real recruitment thing. But it makes you not to wage an absolutely total war by fighting indecisively decisive battles like fighting 3 battles for the control of a region. And that region will lose again in the next turn? This feature makes armies more worthy and a battle have better chance of deciding who to control the settlement or region. Losing a battle or Winning one will have dramatic effects on your kingdom's future.

Well that's all well and good but I oftentimes I find myself managing my kingdom/empire (Depends if I'm playing Medieval or Rome) more than commanding my men. I think I might go back to an older version. Call me impatient and shallow, but I just don't feel like waiting this long. =/

Although one thing that has stayed consistent in Rome and Medieval for me has been the fact that I'm always fighting in the central Mediterranean, playing as some Italian faction (Rome or Sicily) fighting against the people of North Africa. (Carthage, the Moors.)

Edit: I just realized I deleted my old save game as Sicily from 6.0 where I owned all of southern Spain, Africa, the Middle East, Anatolia, Greece, France, Germany, and parts of England. Wellll . .

    6.0? Wouldn't 6.1 have been better?

Its part of RR (Real Recruitment) and its worth going along with.

I wasn't a fan of the idea at all until I tried it out for a while. I now realize that the unit pools force a more diverse army composition and make each unit much more valuable. It is also nice to fight an AI which has a variety of units rather than just their very best.

Once you start expanding and creating higher level barracks, you'll be able to raise large armies. Mercs are your friends.

Friends you send to carry your siege equipment so that your core troops don't suffer the losses.

Thats exactly what i do and it is a very good tactic as you won't have to retrain your core troops if you have a large amount of losses on the walls.
