    Default CTD on startup

    Hi there,

I'm getting the following error when I try to start up the mod via the launcher:

    Generic Error:
    Unable to find skeleton 'fs_s1_forest_elephant_javelinrider'

    This happens with every setting.

    Regards, Quintus

PS: topic title should be CTD on start up..

As you are probably aware there are a lot of different options you could have taken for the install and launch of the game.

    Please advise of

    1) Operating System
    2) Install path
    3) Which launcher option have you used (exe, faction etc)

Edited: If you edit your first post you should be able to change the title.

Could you please tell us if you are using Steam?
Otherwise, are you sure you have followed the instructions to the letter?

    Of course:

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
install path: D:\Activision\Rome - Total War
    UAC etc has been disabled.

I've tried most of the launcher options. Including the RomeTW.exe, RomeTW-BI.exe and RomeTW-ALX.exe. I'm using the CD versions of RTW and expansions so I don't use Steam. I've followed the instructions exactly (They aren't THAT hard)

Is that a clean RTW in your 'Rome - Total War' folder?

Do you have any other mods there?

The best thing to do is to copy that folder elsewhere - that then means you would still have a working RTW. Is the 'D' drive the original install or a copy?

I'd say either something went wrong during the install, or the folder in which you installed RS was not working. Try to reinstall RTW and everything, then the mod.
Else, if it doesn't work, it may be a corrupted download.

EDIT : I'm leaving Brusilov on it, otherwise it won't work for you.

Yes I've prepared a clean install + backup of RTW with BI and ALX prior to the release. I don't have any other mods there and it's updated to the latest version of RTW. I'm installing the mod again, maybe it left something out the first time...

Seeing that message it probably means that for some reason the mod didn't install properly.

Which faction did you select on the launcher?

Try to direct the installer to a empty folder on your desktop and then drag or cut and past the content in that folder to your Clean RTW folder.
I got the same errors while testing the installer with steam. I got it to work this way.

Thanks apple that seems to work for me! However the launcher doesn't work anymore so i'll have to reinstall the mod in the correct path and then copy the previous install over that one to get it to work right? ATM i'm using the batch files to launch the game so i'm good for now

Well you should copy the files that the installer made on your desktop to a clean RTW folder. Everything should work fine if you do that.

Everything is working perfectly now! THe only thing one has to do is change the "Target" and "Start in" to the correct install path of your RTW install directory.

Thanks for the fast replies, i'll be playing now

I would presume that they are referring to the shortcut properties. If you right mouse click the shortcut and then select 'Propterties' (it's at the bottom of the list) you get this screen:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This has both a 'Target' and 'Starts In' path.

    Evening guys,
i have the same problem like posted above, but when i change the properties of the RS2-exe, the exe only links me to the folder in which i installed RS2 and is not activating the starting exe. Hope you understand my problem.

Exit your game and start it again. It happens if go out of a campaign and the start a new within the game without leaving fully (aka back to your desk).
