Pretty sure it had to do with him using "1" in place of "one". Quite a few people do not appreciate text/IM speak.

It boils down to cultural bias against "leet" speech, because the people who use it tend to act like five year olds or creepy old men trying to act like five year olds for nefarious purposes. At least, whenever I see it thats what I see. Contrary to popular belief, it doesent look stupid because it looks stupid, it looks stupid because stupid people use it.
