The Greeks!

So I was playing Extended Greek mod with the Greeks as my most trusted allies (I play as Bactria). You know why? Because I am restoring them. The overpowered Macedonians attacked them and they left them only with Crete. So I made them an offer:
"Come over to Bactria where I'll give you land near my capital to build-on and recqruit natives. I'll also give you large amounts of money to make things easy for you. In return, you will fight for me with the Parthians, Scythians and Indians."
They accepted of course after I paid them 200000 denarii.
After that we fight some battles together against the Parthians. In one battle I was fightins some heavy cav with my archers when suddenly some enemy reinforcements attack my from the back. Almost 30 soldiers dead. Then comes the Greek general and attacks the cavalry from the back and saves my phalanxes from certain death.

Now should I bribe him and make him mine or let him stay in the Greek army? Will it have a negative affect with my relations with the Greeks?

Recruit and bllood your own generals. Leave your allies alone.

He's mediocre at best. I've seen much better generals during my years of playing XGM.

I concur with Zarax about bribing him. XGM traits are indeed not very kind to bribed generals, which is what broke the habit of doing so that I made in vanilla RTW (unless I'm plotting a suicide raid into enemy territory where I don't expect anyone to come back from).

Brusilov is also correct in that it's much more beneficial to blood your own generals than it is to buy others'. And if he does accept the bribe, what does that say about his loyalty? Personally I'd rather have a mediocre general that's loyal to me than a legendary general who will change allegiances at the drop of a coin.

AI is never good, bribe boy! or he will be the downfall of your country (ie. he will backstab you)

Bribe him. You don't want to see your favourite alliance general get kill stupidly or worse backstab you

they will declare war on you and i just don't understand why you gave them settlements

the Diplomacy is not really increased in XGM.

Go for the bribe, it will be better to have him as a friend than a enemy , trust me , ive been there its worth it

I don't know if the AI factors bribes into the apparent 'calculations' of whether it attacks you or not.

eventually u will end up killing em. I have tried saving Greece many times back in the day and they always backstab you, then again they tend to do it a lot irl too so, yes, bribe the dude. that way he will be useful.

With the same amount of money you would spend to bribe him you could build a decent army and upkeep it for a while. This would allow you to kill their generals and take their towns instead. Come on dude, only pussies pay money to avoid being attacked. You think Hanibal or Alexander the great ever paid people money not to fight against them??!!

If you need a good general, build educational buildings and garrison your young family memebers in the town with the most advanced education building. 5/6 tuns and i assure you one of them will gain 3 or 4 stars.
