    Default LT Re: SPQR 5.0

You commented in one of your threads about getting some help/input.
Some of us will find the giant new unit size settings hard to run - JMO.
Regarding units, I have 3 suggestions - humbly submitted if you will indulge me:

    1. Roman Swordsmen. I DISmounted a roman cav unit, the one with the two-tone helm (gold lower, hammered steel crown) & they look GREAT. I think it's Ferres Med. or Aux Cav, but you'll know it by the helm as described.

    2. Titus's Chosen Swordsmen: Mount them and use one colour (say Dacian Brown) for the gothic cav, and the Gaulic Green (with the braided hair) as the Warlord, andf they look fab (& terrifying as they crash through, hack-hacking with those cruel heavy swords).

    3. Laca's Garumente Numidian skirmishers: a superb replacement for duller run-of-the-mill peltasts.

4.the new Horses lineup. Check out the new release, if you haven't already (It's under the TTO on an Archer thread but the horses are from a guy who's name I forget which will soon be widely known: WONDERFUL new horses, with new shades (eg black, red)...but I am certain you've already seen these, mentioned just in case.

    5. GRASS! The grass mod that increases density looks stupid IMO & it REALLY slows the processor. With your newer unit size settings you will want to ease the processor burden where you can. My adivice: OLD Vanilla Grass with the GRASS DISTANCE under preferences set to 100. Looks GREAT & hardly a ping to the processor.

    6. DUST! Again, to lighten the processor speed hit to allow more of us to play the larger unit sizes, editing the desc.particle.text for DUST from 8000 down to 2000 look nicer, allows you to see the famous SPQR skins clealrly and frees up yet more porcessor speed without any need to switch off dust&smoke.

    7. OBVIOUSLY you've already got WEBBIRD's Gauls. Maybe the Braveheart skin would make a good Briton General?

But I do not mean to tell you much of this, but the few processor speed comments are valid for lower end machines like my tiered old beast.

    Thank you for SPQR!
PS: Re sound modding, I took the horns from LOTR (4 different war horns) and applied them to Charges & it livens battles up to hear the horns sound; Onloy one actually works since I am clueless but two have unique horns signalling charges, and still the rally horn is cool, just anothewr suggestion.
    Regards & Ave !

    1. Dont think so, sorry. All ROMANS were swordmen but with a gladius.
    2. I've seen them, and they could be of use. I will see about it.
    3. Havent seen these do you have a picture of them?
    4. Already asked permission to use them if I want to, and he agreed.
    5. This can be fixed by copying the original Vanilla grass file over, plus You have to adjust your own Preferences.
    6. Never touched the Dust, I usually Turn dust off for my games, but it may be a good Idea to mod it, I'll look into it and see what it looks like.
    7. Again never seen a picture of this unit have one?

Tip on playing SPQR 5.0 play on Large settings until you get a new PC as it will be a CPU hog, no way around it do to HUGE battles. But Large settings will be a little more challenging than before. So that helps. Good news is PCs are getting fast, and cheaper, by this coming summer I think all of us will have very fast systems.

does anybody know which is the "grass" file that I have to copy?

I also feel that grass affects performance a lot.

LIBERTUS: does anybody know which is the "grass" file that I have to copy?

Makew sure you replace the file Desc_Grass.Txt as LT says, & then double back to your PREFERENCES text & edit "GRASS DISTANCE". I find 100 is an awesome look & doesn't hurt your processor - the KILLER is duust, just go into "DESC_PARTICLE.TXT", open it, search for "DUST" & you'll see a number vaule, "8000", change that to 2000 & you can KEEP smoke & dust without any measurable processor limits.

Prehaps the senate should be limited in powers yes they had a strong garrsion of rome, but remember it was like another family or faction who were fighting for them for an example the senate used pompey and his troops against caesar rather than themselves. the game would be great as prehaps down to two factions or just a unifed rome since prehaps a unified rome would be more challenging and ud be able to fight all the enemies of rome urself instead of another faction. an example would be say u worked sooo hard and pacified gaul and have a frontier with germania yes and ud like subject carthage and by the time u get there the scipii have finished carthage off or the brutii has finished of the macedonians or greeks.

Prehaps u should start from 230BC or sumthing so the marian reforms come in the time of 107BC that would be cool and do u have any other names for the three roman factions too?

Well, build one, then upgrade it each year. It costs less and is worth it.

Lt, will 5.0 be for BI, RTW 1.3 or RTW 1.2?

SPQR 5.0 will most likely be for Rome 1.2, as he hates the 1.3 bugs

Are there any plans for making an 'SPQR' version of BI? (I guess it would be called something different than SPQR though.)

No. BI has serious issues that would effect SPQR gameplay. And BI is a modding nightmare. I know several modders that are basically giving up on their mods as they needed the features from BI and it has some many issues for modders.

"Please, would you tell where the "TTO on an Archer thread" is ?"

Sure. Look at the bottom right of this webpage. See the dropdown menu? Drop it down but scroll it UP until you see
    "The New Trivium Organisation."

I preferred Vanilla RTW to Vanilla BI so I suppose I will prefer SPQR to the BI mods mentioned afore.
