Default The growing anti-Muslim Sentiment in the USA

As you may be aware, their is an increase in overt bigotry against Muslims, including:

A poll in which 63% of a right-wing Americans support the forced registration of Muslims.

Someone fired a Gun at a Mosque and damaged property

Some attacks a Sikh Man, yelling "You’re not even American, you’re Al-Qaeda. Go back to your country"

Pam Geller and Robert Spencer, both the most prominent members of the anti-park51 project defend the actions of the EDL at Bradford, and intend to bring to America to help protest the Community center.

Does Islam Suck? A pretty unfunny and well known slurs, like the Term Islamics.

Some tried to Burn down the Mosque Construction site, at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Someone fired shots at the same at the same Mosque construction site in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Congressional candidate: Islam’s plan is to destroy the American way of life.

    Rick Scott: 'Obama's Mosque'

Of course, how can we forget the attempted murder of a Somali Taxi Driver?

This is the face of America that's it currently showing the Muslim World. It's difficult to be a Pro-American Muslim currently, I try to defend some of the actions of the USA, and insist that the Americans aren't bigoted towards Muslims, Mostly. They can merely point the protest and rhetoric of the opposition to the community center, which is getting extensive coverage in the Muslim world, and what can I say to that? I'm pro-western and even I'm not sure what to believe, there's been huge out pouring of support for the Rhetoric and actions of people vehemently anti-Muslim.

I have to agree with Ferrets, while anti-Islam sentiments may be on the rise it's only a tiny number of people willing to do that kind of stuff. Regardless, at least around where I live, the sentiment hasn't risen. Though to be fair people around here are inordinately paranoid about Islam to start with.

It depends what you mean with extremism. Sure people that suport a certain "persecution" on Muslim and Islam in general arent Talibans but they sure are extremists and I got say if wasnt for Republican kind of goverment that US and most Western Goverments have and instead had dictarship of majory Muslim would probaly be more persecuted. Thats my opnion at least. Ignorance helps a lot these things and most people are ambivalent or ignorant on Islam.

When they feel the majority is behind them it could be more likely that they take action. And then some of the muslims take action. And so it continues.

The fact of the matter is that the anti-Muslim hysteria that exploded after 9/11 never died down. The caricature of Islam that initially spread has now taken on the status of truth. Misconceptions, Misunderstandings, and Misrepresentations of Islam and Muslims have become common place to American culture and it seems like it keeps getting worse. The actual physical crimes against Muslims is nothing compared to the non-stop bigotry and vilification that U.S. Media is spewing out. This has created a climate of persecution for Muslims in the U.S. and this climate is not a minority phenomenon.

He's talking about Fox News. Which, well.. isn't the entirety of the U.S. media so Oswald is being hyperbolic, but it is overhwelmingly the most-viewed. And it is indeed a nonstop fountain of vitriol and nonsense.

Yeah but there's always going to be idiots. There is a lot to criticise in American public discourse, though. I mean, the constant repetition of the lie that Obama is a Muslim and the implication that this is a negative thing is a good example.

Compared to that even the autistic discussion about muslims here in Germany seems totally sophisticated.

In the UK... it's almost theatre. I think it's because of our class system... when the working classes start spreading hate and nonsense about a minority you can brush it off because they can't really know better and it's probably our fault for not building them enough factories, or whatever it is they do.
