    Default Merchant Trade Distance

I understand the further away, more trade is made. What makes that so though, the distance from your Capital, or from borders of your empire?

I dont think that is totally true. As the HRE my merchants get more from Silk in Thrace than in Egypt. Unless someone edited the Thrace Silk supply to be more valuable, by adding multiple entries at those coordinates in the descr_strat, it seems its true in the most generic sense, but not always.

It's not necessarily distance of a resource, it's just that how far a resource in general is found from your (capital?), the more valuable it is. As the Byzantines, with silk right outside Constantinople worth nothing, the silk down near the Holy Lands will be just as worthless, although there may be slight differences, but none that would make a huge difference. But if I was playing as Kiev, the silk outside Constantinople would be worth bucket loads. Make sense?

Yea, like playing as spain or moors and trading with the gold at top right of map that I think is in cuman territory

It is distance from capitol to the nearest resource of a certain type. So if your capitol is Frankfurt as HRE, the closest silk is in Thrace... and the silk further away should be the same value if equal level merchants are on it. The closest gold is in Belgrade so the gold in Morocco isn't worth anything more.

Trade rights and whether in your own territory or not make a very small difference I think- 5% mebe? I forget, looked at that awhile ago and decided it wasn't enough to worry about.

Ichon the silk is actually worth less the further away from Thrace, if you are the HRE, with the exact same merchant. So unless its been edited in the descr_strat to have more than one silk resource at those coordinates then Im not sure why the value of silk it less.

Another element is the development of the region that the resource is in - if the region is highly developed then I think that it is worth more, not much, but some

Never ever come across this. The city itself has nothing to do with the resource. And vice versa as well, Merchant trade from tapping a resource has nothing to do with settlement trade.

Two things, one is what your faction need. That determine the value of some things. Like HRE glass is nothing, for others is luxury. Byzantines have all silk, of course is a crap price. Must know what faction lack and need. Other thing does matter a lot is the type of roads in the region, how much traffic is there. If you trade in a enemy province, if are wars there, if you have trade rights there. No need to say how important how much experience your merchant is, the bigest factor at all.
Someone posted a a list of goods for all factions. Is somewere on forum, probably on RR forum.
