Avari Elves (Progress+POLL!)

Hey there

I would very much like to implement one or two Avari elf unit in TATW
They would, as it looks now, only be a mercenary unit (silvan elves presumably).

I am no modeler and/or skinner. But I do know some basic coding and scripting
So, If you are a Modeler and/or skinner, I could use you to make some Avari elves.
I am thinking about making them dark green/blue/black tanned and giving them some Indian inspired armor
(Google "Indian Armor" and see what pops up).

This will include a public release, along with a few other tweaks I've made to my game (I.e. renaming some provinces and towns and units)

Maybe you could take a look at the 'New Shores' mod, they were trying to extend the map and add 4 factions including the avari. If I remember correctly the mod is no longer being worked on but some of the original team might just be willing te renew their work, or let you use some of their units, who knows. I'd love to see someone pick up their work and finish that project, even if just partially.

Well, our mod (no name yet) might help you further, because we have an Avari faction, http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...=381407&page=4, the beginning of the mod was at page 4, so it doesn't start at the beginning.

I really like the red cape and hood. and also the helmet and most of the armor.
But again, some more Indian Inspiration (I can't get it out of my head, sorry )

@The Black Goldfish, I don't mean to be discouraging, but I had best say it: no one is going to make your models and skins for you. Making a quality unit takes an enormous amount of time, and I doubt anyone would take up the project without some serious motivation. Having worked briefly on a BFME mod as the only one (of two members) capable of doing graphics work, and it's typically frustrating when the team leader cant do most aspects of modding at least close to as well as the additional team members.

I would recommend that you download Gimp and the Milkshape free trial and see what you can do on your own. There are plenty of good graphics tutorials on site and I can like you to some even better ones over on Revora. Give modeling and skinning a try, and don't get discouraged if you don't have a natural aptitude for it, you just need practice.

I already have GIMP, and can do some basic stuff, but, nothing really impressive

*sigh* I just might give it a try. Or look for help elsewhere

Why don't you start by reskining some free models (to gain some skills and perhaps even release)?? such as these from broken crescent...

so perhaps you won't be able to modify the model at first, but if you make a good texture and looks good, then you'll probably get some help (3D modeler help)

Hey there.
Thanks for that one!

I actually made some progress:
I've implemented one of those "Free" BC-units (A Sindh one if i'm not mistaken).
I've also FINALLY got my Gimp to edit DDS-files (After getting my hands on a plugin and a file converter. Thats VERY IMPORTNANT to any of you starting to edit textures! :p)
And, they are working in Custom battle! Description, title, pic, everything!

Well, they are not going to look much like my original concept and idea, but they will be indian-inpired!

Greetings

No real news. But i've decided to keep them tanned. maybe with a hint of black. But Modeling and new textures is going nowhere in the next few weeks, due to me being on holiday.

Current status: Avari elves still looking like vanilla Broken Crescent units. Not integrated into campaign either. but functional in custom battle
