    Default Challenge

This is sort of a challenge to those experienced players who enjoy SS, but also a valuable info that I need to know. Playing as Byzantium empire, what is the maximum amount of rebel settlements you can conquer by turn number 5?

A friend of mine swears he can take as much as 7, but I find no way to achieve it!!

In 6.2, Isparta, Smyrna, Cannakkale, Arta (?), Durazzo, then either Sofia or Bucharest (Depending on where Isaac goes). Mainly using a low seige force that includes a general to draw out the garrison in sortie, then takes time and skill to kill or 'break' them. Still needs some luck as horse archers can be a pain and also generals, even Byzantine, can still die
    6.3, not sure.

But has to be early campaign as late is a very hard startt position for the Byzantines...

I've only played 6.1 late, and the only Rebel settlements are Sofia and a couple of settlements on the north-eastern Black Sea area...

If it is in 6.3 VH/VH then 2 in late campaign.

It is very darn hard on conquering those rebel settlements in greece proper so I target the caucuses.

Imho that fast expansion can be a gambit. If you exhaust most of your troops then chances are (depending on the AI and difficulty) you'll get some nice wandering salesmen of death kicking in your settlement doors.

Very true.. where cash and a diplomat and/or royal marriage come in handy It's unusual, I;ve found, for both the Turks and Hungary to attack very early on, one yes, but not both if handled well, so a bit of consolidation is possible before you have to hit the field almost constantly from that point on. Neither Sicily nor Venice dive in very early either... Usually get a naval war against the Fatamids before that.

If you can physically reach 7 rebels as Byzantines in early era it should be possible but I don't remember that many rebels in easy reach by 5 turns. Early era Byz starts large and with decent amount of generals so siege and defeat sally probably works.

Try that at late. Or let be a real bastard, try to get 1 settlement in turn 5 in latest RR-RC like byzantine in 1450 campaign. No I am nice, survive 50 turns!

Have your friend try a VH campaign and report back if he can do the same thing. Those looking for a challenge in M2TW/SS don't play on Medium.

    That's possible in 6.2

but to do that in the latest RR/RC or in 6.3 in 1450 or late campaign is:

    HERESY

I survived 3 sieges of Constantinopole in 1450 campaign. Turks broke 3 ceasefires in 15 turns and at turn 5 they siege Atena and Mystras. Chance to win that campaign are extremly slim.
