    Default Stand Up For Christmas!!!

Ok, I lied....I'm not off to bed just yet. Had to check the headlines 1st.

In light of the season, and all the talk of Christmas, and how we can't say "Merry Christmas" any more, etc
And a thread or two in the Devia (not in the pit surprisingly),....well I figured that should be fixed.

It's now in the Pit too.

I say, don't take Christmas out of Christmas.

    --------------------------
    Hastert Wants 'Christmas,' Tree Together
    Nov 29 9:46 PM US/Eastern

    WASHINGTON, D.C.

If it's a spruce tree adorned with 10,000 lights and 5,000 ornaments displayed on the Capitol grounds in December, it's a Christmas tree and that's what it should be called, says House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Hastert, R-Ill., in a letter to the Architect of the Capitol, recommended that the annual Capitol Holiday Tree, as it has been called the past several years, be renamed the Capitol Christmas Tree.

"I strongly urge that we return to this tradition and join the White House, countless other public institutions and millions of American families in celebrating the holiday season with a Christmas tree," Hastert wrote to Architect Alan Hantman.

His office said the tree began to be referred to as the Holiday Tree in the 1990s. Spokesman Ron Bonjean said the reasons were unclear.

On Dec. 8 Hastert will flip the switch to light the tree, a 65-foot Engelmann Spruce from the Santa Fe National Forest in New Mexico. On Tuesday workmen were erecting the tree on the West Front of the Capitol.

Why can't we say "merry"? I say "Merry Christmas" all the time.

Of course it should be called a "Christmas Tree". Why shouldn't it be?

You've missed alot while reading the Quran my brother.

Sears, Target, JC Penny's....I don't want to continue at fear of misstating a company, but the list was alarmingly large.

About 20 major companies have banned their employees from saying the words "Merry Christmas"...they MUST say "Happy Holidays" or risk termination.

Also, in Boston, they've had a Christmas Tree sent in from Canada where some bostonians had helped fight off someone to defend them in the 7 years war (French-Indian in the US)...anyway, ever since, they've been sending a tree down at Christmas, and this year, the mayor of Boston had it declared a Holiday Tree. It so enraged Boston residents, and the man in Canada who cut it down year after year (his family before him) that they were forced to change all the text on it back to Christmas Tree.

    Christmas is under assult.

Why exactly have they done this? I have never heard anyone complain about the phrase "Merry Christmas". What's the harm in saying "merry" or "Christmas tree"? This is kind of stupid.

What are they going to do next? Ban those Christmas songs?...which I honestly enjoy too much during the holiday season .

Today while listening to a fav radio host (Local guy, Sussman) anyway, he was discussing this issue (like us, in awe) and played some classic Christmas songs with Christmas bleeped out.

It was hilarious, to say the least!

I don't celebrate Christmas..but I still really enjoy the spirit of the holiday season and everything . You know...all those songs playing all the time...people decorating their houses...people shopping all the time...

I say "Merry Christmas" all the time... Christmas is a lot of fun .

The only thing I don't like about this holiday season is the Xbox 360 shortages...lousy Microsoft .

But anyways...who has complained about this whole issue? Why so much PC?

Good question  . To put things in perspective, i don't care if muslims go around celebrating their holidays saying whatever, same with Jews, same with those who celebrate Kwanza. Often those who represent "open-mindness" are in fact far from. Instead of keeping everyone from celebrating their personal holiday, let everyone celebrate their own without all this PC bull.

Yes, Christmas is under attack, but from whom?
-The Muslims who celebrate Jesus as one of their profets?
-The atheists who don't care about christmas?
-Or the Jews who murdered Jesus and own most of those companies you listed?

What I think's funny is that most of the groups that people are worried about offending couldn't really care less whether someone says "Merry Christmas" or not.
I doubt that the average Jew, Atheist or Muslim gives a damn whether someone puts a Christmas tree in the middle of town.

The name of the Anglo-Saxon fertility goddess, Eostre.
Thats a disputed root of the word yes . But its not Easter.

    Easter: It's Roots and Symbols

PS. Just for fun, why don't you look up the video "Happy Holidays with Bing and Frank"? It's a holiday special with Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, dating back to 1957. Gee, I guess we eeeevil secularists must have climbed into a time machine and corrupted 1950s America too!
Ive seen it Im old remember. I think your the one who should check it out. Yes they called it happy holidays becase then as now its the holiday season . Back then it was Christmas and New Years. Would you care to see the list of songs from that show?

    "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
    "O Come All Ye Faithful,"
"It Came Upon a Midnight Clear"
    "Away in a Manger."
    "Little Town of Bethlehem"

Then they do a few secular songs

    "Rudolph" for Bing
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town" for Frank

Then they sing White Christmas together for the finale. Happy Holidays indeed.

It's 'disputed' only because Eostre is only found in one mention by Bede:

Eosturmonath has a name which is now translated "Paschal month", and which was once called after a goddess of theirs named Eostre, in whose honour feasts were celebrated in that month. Now they designate that Paschal season by her name, calling the joys of the new rite by the time-honoured name of the old observance.
    ('De Tempore Ratione', XV)

Some think that, because this goddess isn't mentioned elsewhere, Bede must have made her up. Except, since Bede (672-735 AD) is our only source for a hell of a lot of Anglo-Saxon paganism, this argument doesn't really hold much water; especially since, if Eostre didn't exist, no-one can come up with an alternative explanation for what 'Eosturmonath' could possibly mean.

    But its not Easter.
Yes, just as 'Wodenesdaeg' isn't Wednesdaay and 'cyning' isn't king. The fact remains that people were celebrating the rebirth of the fertility of spring (complete with nice fertility symbols, like bunnies and eggs) at the time of 'Eosturmonath' when Yeshua/Jesus was still a twinkle in his father's eye.

So Christians can't whine about that one being stolen from them by wicked heathens, since they stole it from the heathens first as well.

I love the way you TOTALLY miss the point, which was that Christians who celebrate Christmas have also historically used the "Happy Holidays" greeting. It is not an anti-Christian holiday greeting, nor is it something that the ACLU and secularists forced upon the world starting in the 1970s, nor is it the result of a left-wing campaign as you so laughably believe; these are all lies spread by demagogues such as Bill O'Reilly and his sheep-like followers.

Far from disproving my point, the religious songs in that special are PRECISELY my point. A point which apparently sailed far over your head.

You need to keep up temple dog and others. There are about 20 other posts by me after that post. Do your reading. I don't have a problem with stores saying Happy Holidays. My problem is when the ACLU sues to get the cross taken off the seal of Los Angeles (The Angles, founded by a Christian Mission), my problem is with school kids not being allowed to write about Christmas, my problem is the ACLU sueing to have fallen cop's crosses torn down because it offends 1 athiest, my problem is the mayor of Boston renaming a long standing tradition of having a Christmas Tree to a Holiday Tree. You don't buy trees for Hannakah, and Christmas is a secular federal holiday in this country. So keep it a "Christmas Tree" and say Happy Holidays all you want, and I have no problem.

All of you need to read the whole thread if you want to discuss this with me, becaue I've since said "OK, I've calmed down from my original reaction about the stores banning their employees from saying "happy holidays". But the only reason I over reacted is because it's becoming the norm to watch the ACLU and their ILK attacking Christianity everywhere they can find 1 offended athiest.

    Christmas is under assult.

Its easy to respond to this in one word:

    CAPITALISM

If you support capitalism you support their ability to do this. They do this simply because they believe it will get them more minority customers, be they atheis, muslim, jewish, buddist, etc. Its capitalism at its finest.

Though it makes no sense that George Bush has a "holiday tree" and not a christmas tree, his elective base is supposed to be Christian so he doesn't have to sell himself to religious minorities. However they dont care, they wont go democrat, and it gives him potentially more "customers".

Its not "secularists", not muslims, and its not atheists...... its capitalism. You never heard of ANY of this until corporations started their marketing this way.

edit: The term "securlarist" moderately annoys me but thats another subject. Seems all catch words are made to moderately annoy me now. However Blog is by far the worst.

Its all a load of steaming f@#king bullsh!t. Christmas is a religous celebration. If these people want to remove all mention of religion or religous meaning from the holiday then they should not be celebrating it at all. It isnt Muslims that are the driving force behind this nonsence its all these so called liberals and civil rights groups whose idea of liberalism and free speech is anything goes, no matter how immoral or decedent, as long as you agree with everything we say, otherwise your a racist fascist lunatic. Its about time all these students, police officers, office workers, musicians and anyone else who has run foul of this crap told their school, superiors etc. where to stick their "holidays greetings" cards and ignore these discriminatory rules. I may not be religous but this trend that has been spreading abroad from the US has me shocked and disgusted.
