Default Problem Installing On Windows 7

Ok so I'm trying to replay the good times on RTW and I can't seem to get the game to install, I have a few errors and problems that keep popping up.

First off when I put the disc into the DVD Drive, a screen will pop up which shows whether I want to auto run the disc or open files, I'm on Win 7 by the way, so if I choose auto run then I will get the following error:
    Error 1

Then what I did was I opened the disc files and clicked on setup and then I get this error:
    Error 2

I tried clicking the RomeTW.exe and I got yet another error:
    Error 3

I'm getting pretty frustrated, I tried cleaning the disc as much as possible, the disc isn't even scratched or dirty, and I tried cleaning the registry just in case it had something to do with it and still nothing.
    System Specs:
    -Windows 7 64-bit
    -i7 930
    -5850

For the first two error messages, disable the UAC and install it in C:\Games.

For the third one, clean the disc real good checking for dirt, scratches, fingerprints, etc.

The last error means that for some reason the disc is corrupted or for some reason your drive cannot read the disc properly.

Can you put the disc in another PC or drive and see if that can read the disc?

Problem is that I never get a chance to choose it's installation path, each error pops ups a few secs after I click on either setup, auto run, or RomeTW.exe.

Hmm, I honestly doubt it's my drive since I've never had problems with it, no game, DVD or any disc at all has given me problems with it, even games that are really scratched up. I'm gonna try installing it on my laptop and see if it can read it, I'll post back in a few mins.

EDIT: Yes it works on my laptop, it reads it fine. Oh great. I was wondering if I can install the game and somehow move the game files to my desktop HDD, perhaps in a flash drive or disc? Also any ideas as to what's wrong with my current drive? Or is there anywhere that perhaps I could download the game as an ISO just so i could use my own key code without having to use the game disc?

I think the easiest thing to do is to somehow get it installed on your main PC.

Have you disabled the UAC (User Accoint Control) if you are using Vista or 7?

I honestly don't know why the disc cannot be read on the main PC. Have you made sure that the drivers are up-to-date for that drive?

I guess the main thing is that the disc can be read - so you know there is not anything fundamentally wrong with it.

I guess you don't have an external CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive which could be attached to your main PC?

The problem with installing it on the laptop and then trying to transfer it to the main PC is that there won't be any Windows Registry entry for the game. I don't know if it would be possible to create a copy of the disc on your laptop and then use that?

Yea, i used to have an external CD-ROM but I sold it a couple months ago thinking I wasn't gonna need it. Drivers are up to date, I don't usually disable UAC since it doesn't really annoy me but I will try it, and thanks irishron for the links, I'm gonna give them a go. I'll post back anything I find in.

One of the first things I did with Vista was to turn off UAC. I think it was causing a lot of problems for people who had installed games. I doubt that it's causing your drive to not read the disc though (but it is WIndows so anything is possible).

As old as Rome is, it could be having trouble with the new drives as Medieval2 is. The main culprits seem to be blu-ray drives that do not have backward compatible firmware. Also, there are dvd-roms that refuse to play with iTunes installed.

Nope, nothing works. It's gotta be my drive not being able to read the disc data for some reason. Game installs normal on laptop and on second desktop. Guess I'm stuck unless I buy another drive or download RTW online somehow. Thread might as well be closed, thanks for all info and help given Brusilov and Irishron.

No problems - the only way may be to borrow an external CD/DVD drive from someone. Do you know the person you sold it to?

Anyway - good luck and closed.
