Default Peace in our time. Honest.

I have come to an end of a long and very enjoyable campaign [played in two parts]. As France, I allied myself to the Ottoman and Maratha, seeing the Maratha steamroller inching up russia I decided, "why not create a nice big buffer zone, something that will truly deal with them, even if they're my allies, who knows when they'll backstab?"

And thus I set forth financially aiding Prussia, the Ottomans, and Sweden, by the end of the 18th century all minor nations were wiped of the map. Prussia had taken all of Poland, Austria and Germania, Sweden all of Scandinavia, and Maratha all of Russia India and Ireland.

Now, here is where it gets strange. I had an alliance with the Ottomans and Maratha, but in aiding Prussia I made an alliance with them as well which they also shared with the Ottomans. After a few turns the Swedes who were allied to the Prussians asked for an alliance and soon every large nation in the world was allied to each other [excluding the Mexican Emnpire which is only allied to me].

There hasn't been a war since, all nations not in this super alliance has been destroyed. Now the question beckons. Is this truly peace in our [my] time? Will there ever be another war? Will the CAI allow this peace to continue? Also, has this happened to anyone else?

Weird - Are their diplomatic standing to you still 'friendly' etc? Did you grant them military access before the alliances? that could also explain it - a bug means that no nation you grant military access can declare on you

Besides the Ottomans and the Maratha's all nations are deeply hostile with me Must be due to my unexpected backstabbing of Spain. I was somewhat surprised when Gran Colombia invaded Cuba, it's a shame I had to destroy them and split the lands between me and Mexico. I guess Sweden might attack me soon since they are desperately trying to trade territories with me. Or my Protectorate the US might want to start another war. But otherwise, it truly is, peace in our time

No, I was referring to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who said that after returning from Nazi Germany, the next year, world war brakes out. How Ironic

Yeh, it's an emerging faction, Like Gran Colombia, it will appear after you destroy Spain or get rebels in Mexico.

Just so you can see how this new world order looks.

Remember, each faction showed here is allied to each other. Making it a 5 way alliance. With such major factions. I'm surprised no-one else has been in this situation?

Wow....Hmm...may you can attack weaken Sweden or the Ottomans, that way the Marathas or the Prussians will be more inclined towards war.
Also, you don't have a large front with either Sweden or the Ottomans...so you don't stand to lose much?

Thats one heck of a balance of power youve got there. No one can do anything to a member nation because all of the member nations are so close to each other that they would only become targets if they move. Swedan is basically surviving on that notion.

Ive come sortuve close before, but with two member nations neutral to each other. Spain, savoy, France (me), Martha, and Ottomans all controlled sizable empires, with mine being biggest, but not everyone was allied. Marthas and ottomans were neutral (though they ceased fighting when the marthas reached the point where the ottoman fleet prevented expansion) and spain/savoy and ottomans were neutral.

Yeah. Well, I believe I've been at peace for over... 10 years now? Woah! So anyway, I decided to no longer protectorize the US. They hate me enough. Maybe I'll see a good war.

In my AAR after all was said and done there was a 75 year peace.... and 3 alliances that would last for the next 450 years...

Suggest keeping a fleet stationed in the baltic, a couple armies along germany, and a fleet and army stationed around italy. Your expansion might push the balance out of wack.

Seems the AI can't nicely comprehend not being able to expand militarily. Not that anyone needs to expand really. Every turn Prussia and Sweden asks for different regions. Trying to expand via diplomacy. Not really, they always trade them for some of their far flung regions. Also, USA mounted a successful invasion of Ireland after I swapped it with the Maratha for Ceylon. Guess they were going to invade Ireland either way since their fleet was there for some time. Americans like the Irish don't they

Generally when you go to war with a large nation next door late game they build up a blob of full stacks all in assist range of each other somewhere around the border and you would respond by doing the same, which leads one big battle after which the action kinda declines as you steamroll over the border. What you have however is a opportunity to get attacked on multiple fronts (which is sadly a rarity late game) by a challenging amount of full stacks. i reckon you should start the world war and see how it pans out, all AI nations allied together against the player sounds pretty epic.

Well you might like this AAR... http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=318558 Player and I think three nations (all with 1/2 regions left) vs Marathas who own the rest of the world.

I enjoy that AAR, I could say, it help influence me creating the world as it is, funding Prussia and Sweden to destroy Poland and Russia. I just wish the Ottomans were any good. I used to give them well over 10k a turn yet they did not expand a bit [and actually lost territory due to rebellions]. But now there is NO single province territories left, none. And my war against the USA is going good, just need to retake dublin.
