Important Note Regarding Online Play

We have been made aware of racist abuse and other offensive topics in the chat areas of the lobbies for Total War and Total War:Barbarian Invasion online play. Since the lobbies are community areas to support the enjoyment of the games, we regard such comments as unacceptable and restricting other users from enjoying the services.

Since it is techically not possible to ban the offending users from the lobbies, we regret that we will be turning off the chat facility in the lobbies to ensure that this forum is not used further for indecent topics and users do not become offended by such behaviour. Please note that this board

I'll take the oppurtunity to remind anyone who may have been party to this (quite likley that a few on these forums will have been) that racism is not tolerated from TWC, is considered extremly offensive, and attacks made on other members on the grounds of race may result in immediate (and possibly permanent) cessation of posting privelidges.

This is not a gestapo type threat, but rather a friendly warning of actions which we must all seek to avoid.

TWC never has and never will allow racism in any way, shape, or form and racist remarks will lead to immediate warning, suspension and/or a permanent ban from the forum. Thank you for telling us Shogun.

I know u can't do much about the Gamespy lobbies--but Man!!!......there are many filthy mouths there Its so bad sometimes it makes me blush........and I'm 51 and spent 8 yrrs in the U.S. Navy

Come on guys!! Grow up. Do you seriously think that when someone says a racist comment they actually harm to that person? I've said racist comments before on multiple video games and its nothing more than joking. If the only racist term they are using is the word "******" or derivatives such as ":wub:" or others then i personally see no problem with it as the offendees (black people) seem to have no problem using these terms in their common day lives to one another and it causes no offense to them. So i dont see how it takes away the "enjoyable gaming environment for everyone". All of u need to learn to grow up and act ur age... we're not in pre-school any more guys. It's time we start acting like it.

I dont agree with this. If someone finds someone else offensive they can just block them right? Been a while since i last went online and it semed fine then and there was a block button i remember that i never had to use. It was mainly young boys trying to be funny by posting immature sentences (nothing offensive just silly) and some others asking "can someone set up a no arty game" or something along the lines of that.

This is probably fair enough. I've never seen racist language on the chat lobbies but I'm not doubting it happens. Some people are just too pathetic to know when to stop.

I'll admit when i go online i sometimes be racist but as a joke like and don't take it to for i mean im white and have black friends whats so wrong with that but the thing is im homaphobic lol.

i beleieve that these chatting rooms are getting out of hand just a little bit we've come to play a game not argue about our race and trying to defend ourselves to people we cant even see so we just need to show a litttle bit of maturity

I am new to TW and while I do not like the offensive nature of a lot of online gamers in general I have grown accustomed to it. I have been playing in online lobbies since the MW2 days (when we emulated IPX over IP to play!)
The ESRB ratings ARE NOT applicable to online play as online play IS subject to change for this very reason. I would think it would be the responsibility of the developer to ensure that there was a way to filter it out and/or ban offending members or even better MUTE them. So they cannot reply to others or send their offending messages out.
A majority of online gamers are not the type to send out these messages and punishing the majority for the petty annoyances of the very low minority is not the course of action I would suggest. The purpose of chatting in these rooms is to find out who you want to play with and get to know them,. possibly talk a little strat out before the game. When you take away this vital functionality you definetly lose a lot!
