I've never had problems 'fast tabbing' out of the game and back into it. I've used both Vista and 7 as well.

Alt-tabbing is known to cause issues, it is not a problem from RTW or even Steam, but from the OS. I believe it is related to high memory usage.

I'm having some problems with alt tabbing as well. It seems to only happen when I use the bloom effect. When I try to tab back in the game, it keeps going back to the desktop... No CTD. Anybody else have this as well or is it just me?

The OS can't handle it and crash. As Paedric said a high memory usage issue.
The Bloom effect uses more memory than the game would without it.

Yea but I have 4GB of memory, I have 64bit Win7 and I have the game .exe patched to be Large Address Aware. So I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with high memory usage.

Same here, but it happens to me too. I've also found that at times, when it doesn't crash after an Alt+tab, it might do so, when I give some kind of 'mass order' or something that forces the engine to 'calculate' a lot of stuff I guess. It sometimes freezes then and CTDs.

Anyway, I've learned to live with it. What can we do, the engine is old, and RS2 is just so massive, the dear game can't take all her weight.

I got 8 gig and never suffered form that.
Remember that Windows puts as much info as it can into the Ram and only empties when space are needed.
