Yes, the update available pop-up shows up. I just updated it now, so don't worry.

Well guys I started a map making page on the wiki, and put up instructions for installing the gimp scripts. I'm the only one who's made a map so far so it'll take a while for me to get all the information on there for how to do everything. I don't expect it would be easy to figure out what to do on your own, unless you understand lisp and can read the scripts. I'll add to it when I get the chance.
i get a HTTP 404 when I try to click the install link.

Ah, that link was wrong. Fixed now, thanks.
Nice Garnier
OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIEVeni, Vidi,Vinci - Gaius Julius Caesar...
Not to pressure, but AA (Prussia) is late on his move 3 days now...
You're right. I've been busy and not watching. I've skipped his, it's on to Tiberius.
Brings another matter to the front: How about a "round timer" for online games like Civ uses it for its PBEM-Games? Once your round starts, a countdown starts ticking and you have to do your turn in that period. Failure to do so will cause your turn to be skipped. Best would be to make it adjustable, but a fixed 24 or 48h would be more than sufficient as well, as that probably is the standard time for a reasonable match length.
Also would cause you to no longer have to watch those games manually .
Oh, and you can delete the "senshi" game, please. Was just for test purposes and I didn't do anything with it.
And another 3 days have passed with nothing happening on rivoli .
I have just opened a new game: "Free For All" with some special rules
All countries are "human". No AI whatsoever. Yes, even Wallachia and Moldavia.
You can hop in anytime and just play the country that currently is active. No password-protected countries, no email notifications, nothing.
Rules of conduct:
- Play the country's turn to the best of your ability. Do not intentionally cripple a nation so another nation has an easy game.
- Play only ONE turn at a time. Once you finished your nation's turn, exit and wait at least until someone has made one other turn. This helps preventing the development of "bias" towards a certain faction and offers more players the opportunity to stay on to the game.
-If you are the first to play the country, don't give the player a specific name. Use "Human" or just fill in the country name.
I'm curious how this'll work out .
Interesting idea. My only worry is that it would take far too long to get through the rounds at first, unless you get two people who play back and for for a long session. I went with britain.
Another idea would be to have teams where a group of people play a group of countries, and all players can play all factions on the team. That way when someone's gone it doesn't hold up the game.
Well, it probably won't take no longer than the current rivoli . The FFA method prevents having to wait until it's your turn and allows to just hop in whenever you feel like it.
I like your game Garnier, it's already quite enjoyable and has a lot of potential. The plots could use some balancing though. Right now sabotage and rebellion seem by far the most useful (and rebellion mostly with no fog). Assassination is far underpowered, as generals really aren't THAT powerful, and it isn't successful enough. Attrition is hardly ever usable, and spies only useful with fog on, and even then, nowhere near as useful as sabotage or rebellion. Music would also be a great addition.
I'm curious why you picked the "continent" regions that you did. They seem mostly based on historical country areas rather than geographical regions.
AI is decent, could always be stronger though. After testing, it seems like the eastern nations tend to win a bit more than the rest. Nothing wrong with that, other than you'd expect a bit more from places like France, Prussia and England considering the time period.
Great work so far though, its lots of fun.
By the way, I'd be happy to join some multiplayer games if anyone's interested. Preferably one with reasonably active players. I'm currently playing the freeforall game, but one I'd like to try one with set nations.

Map making page. The map making page describes each file and what its purpose is. The Gimp scripts for map making have been out since I posted them a couple weeks ago. A step by step tutorial for making maps doesn't exist now, and I don't feel motivated to make one right now.
Thanks for your comments Raoeoiku.
I'm currently deciding what to do next. I don't know if I want to keep working on polishing this game as it is, or make a new game using the same underlying code, or do something entirely new.
This is the first game I've ever attempted to make. I want to make something more fun. I'm not sure this turn based system can hold people's interest for very long. But on the other hand, grand strategy games in real time are basically the games made by Paradox, and I couldn't hope to make something to compare with those.
I'm leaning toward a live MP turn based game, where the turns are brief so there's more interaction. This would mean finally learning network programming which I've put off so far. One thing Paradox games lack is ease of use in online MP, so if I made some kind of strategy game that was easy to get into live MP with, I might really enjoy it. I don't know of anything like that right now. I still need to think up a design for gameplay that would be fun, simple and something people could play competitively.
I'm also no good at the art side and have almost no experience with audio. But I feel that thinking up some good gameplay and getting it into live MP will be the key for me to make a fun game.
