Empire VS Napoleon

hey TW fans. i have been playing empire for a while now and it is a great game. but i am growing tired of it with the repetitive gameplay and stupid AI. i was just wondering if it is worth it to go out and buy napoleon? is it just more or less the same of empire just a bit polished up? i am just curious because i want to change it up a bit. also do you think i should just forget about napoleon and wait for shogun?? let me know your thoughts.

No i havent tried any mods on empire. but i did mod medieval a little while back, all i did was play as papal states tho haha. do you have any suggestions for some good mods?

by the way i read your "AAR". I am new to total war center and this whole forum thing but the read was quite interesting, what exactly is it?

An AAR is an after-action report which basically chronicles your empire as it develops throughout the game.
Personally I'd try playing as different factions using an "unlock all factions" mod. I suggest one of the small German states or one of the Italian States. Then after that try Darthmod/Imperial Splendour like everyone in the next few posts will suggest.

To address your first concern:
ETW has more replayability than NTW.
-More playable factions (especially if you get a mod that unlocks the minors)
-Larger world (3 theatres + trade theatres)
-More "sandboxy" campaign. Not "France vs the World"

As for mods, like Amberon said, DM and IS are two very popular mods, but I'd also suggest looking into APE:TI, TAR, and TRoM. You can't go wrong with any of the hosted mods, and in most cases, you can have more than one downloaded at a time to switch between.

As mentioned before, DarthMod is a very popular mod that improves the AI and BAI a great deal. Also, you could get AUM (Additional Units Mod), an awesome mod, I use it, adds loads of cool new units to the game, actually my avatar is from the unit card of one of my fav AUM units, Marines. AUM is made SwissHalberdier, and is compatible with major mods like DarthMod, A Proper Empire: Terra Incognita, etc. It also adds some new naval units, very useful and fun.
Also, the large number of new elite troops available to all factions can make the campaign more challenging, specially if you're fighting the enemy super-units with your normal ones.

Like, I am playing a Russia campaign, and had to fight off Swedish Marines and Garrison Guards (both have awesome stats) with my Line infantry, and according to me, Russia has the worst line infantry in the game. So it can be pretty fun/harder.

If you have expendable income, buy NTW. Its a nice change of pace from Empire, the graphics are much better, and the new features are awesome.

I tend to play NTW if I want to conquer Europe, and I play ETW when I want Africa, Ottomans, Indians(the real kind), and the American theater. Empire is a MUCH larger scope, but the gameplay differences between the two games make alternating a good choice. Last week I conquered all of Europe as Russia in NTW, and tonight I am starting an Ottoman campaign in ETW, intent on slaughtering and subdueing all of India.

I'd also like to add, if your computer is low end I'd skip Napoleon.

yes i think its not a bad thing havin a slightly scripted campaign as it is in ntw becos its more realistic and the ai arent 2 dumb or ridicuolsly exspansive =D i also think there is more differences between the factions in ntw than etw
