Default BAI being dumber than normal

So, open field battles are perfect, they flank, they charge my archers with their calvary, challenging as a AI can be. During Sieges however, 50% of the it works "fine" they break the gate, climb the walls die horrible deaths, run away.

25% of the time they do what I mentioned up above but then get "stuck" on walls and kinda just sit there and get slaughtered, I've had routed units just stand in the field while 2-3 of their comrades were stuck running against a wall.

The other 25% of the time and I think this might just be forts, they climb the walls, get killed and rout, but then they break the gate and just sit there... maybe one unit will come in. I eventually have to charge out of my gate and kill them and even then they usually don't charge me, they kinda just chill and wait for me to come get them, even ballistas will just sit there and not shoot at my troops.

Is this just buggyness that everyone gets or do I need to apply a fix or anything?

First question: What unit size are you playing with?

because that sounds like the good old AI pathfinding problem.

Thanks for the quick response, I believe its whatever the default is. I have M2TW:K Britannia Campaign + SS6.3 and the fixes download I got from a sticky. I'm playing early era campaign with Savage AI and permanent watchtowers/arrows.

I think I'll just up the difficulty so enemies wait longer before routing. Less chance of getting stuck if 20 men run away rather than 120

I've had the same problem twice - even as an attacker I had to continually order units on ladders and towers to keep moving.

only happened so far on wooden walls (but then I've not tested much beyond that stage of the game )
I've posted problem on G5's BAI thread.

    update:

just fought another wooden walls battle - ladders and towers worked 100% OK.

there are 5 G5 BAIs - it's possible that the problem doesn't affect all of them only some?

I just got home and it turns out it was set to huge army size, so I switched to medium and its not taking affect, do I need to restart my campaign? :<

I've found if you change unit size mid-campaign that it does affect newly recruited units.

Ha, I never tried that... Use your Huge army sized army to destroy new medium sized armies the AI puts out
