For some reason my Venetian heir isn't allowed to marry a French princess...is it because I am currently at war with France? They're being ridiculous...I took Stauffen from the HRE and they took Bern when the Pope called a Crusade on Frankfurt...I offered a trade of Stauffen for Bern, which isn't really even, since Bern has a mine, so of course they refussed....their unwillingness to comply led to my sacking and taking Bern for free, but now I want peace because the border is huge and I am trying to conquer Greeece, not fight France, anyway....I am now offering a 10K gold, Stauffen, Trade Rights and Map Information for a ceasefire...they're denying me but I am wondering why I can't marry my faction heir to their princess as a way to create a peace treaty? Are marriage alliances only available when you're not at war with the other faction?

you can never create alliances directly from a war, same goes with marriage... so you need a cease fire first before trying to marry the princess...

think of it this way... Britain and Germany during the Blitz... suddenly, Hitler offers an alliance with the brittish against the russians... WWCD (What Would Churchill Do)???

first, get a cease fire... THEN a marriage with maaaybee some gold...

Damn these French, they won't accept a ceasefire...they don't currently pose a threat, but it is only a matter of time...I am sick of having to marry Holy Roman princesses....and the French princess was 8/10 charm...and of course my Doge died last turn so now I have an heirless Doge and the senior bloodline is no longer in control of the next heir...

I think that if you propose a ceasefire, then the option for an alliance and marriage should be available.

yes it is... but then I have never gotten it to work... it seems that the chance of getting a cease fire AND an alliance in the same deal is veeery hard... although, I have never tried with good relations... eg. the war started as a result of a "mistake"...

Ya, but if they won't take Stauffen and 10K and trade rights I can't offer much more for a ceasefire.

Anyway I found a nice (6/10 charm) Leonese princess...although she wasn't cheap...2.5K gold with trade rights and an alliance wasn't enough, I had to up it to 5K to get it done...but it works out very well because now my Doge has a 6/10 charm princess who will hopefully provide an heir AND I have an alliance with Leon, which is the best part, because I have been at war with Aragon and I am still at war with France, both of whom share borders with Leon.

I do believe Hitler tried to ally with Britain, but someone needled it into not accepting.

Charm means jack crap. I (as Norway) bagged a HRE princess who only had 4 Hearts, without looking at her traits, and then later found in the trait list of her husband "Wife is Ripe". I believe he was no slouch in the boudoir either, and they ended up with four kids, all of which benefit from the Germanic Relations and who are all Quagmires.

Stay away from the hot chicks. They won't want to do the horizontal waltz cause they're afraid of getting stretch marks.
