    Maps

Thanks to Ezza123 at The Miniatures Page.

George III's collection of military maps comprises some 3,000 maps, views and prints ranging from the disposition of Charles V's armies at Vienna in 1532 to the Battle of Waterloo (1815).

Most notable among these are the military maps, prints and drawings collected by his uncle, William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721–65), particularly during his period as Captain General of the British army during the War of the Austrian Succession (1743–8) and the Seven Years War (1756–63).
The second major collection, bought by George III in 1763, was that of the military prints collected by the Italian art patron, Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588–1657). In addition to these, George III acquired hundreds of maps of contemporary conflicts, such as the American War of Independence (1775–83), and the French and Napoleonic Wars (1792–1815).

    Maps

    From The Napoleonic Wars forum
    John Gill - Prussia/Saxon Maps?
The http://mapire.eu/ site is a wonderful gateway to 18th and 19th century maps of the Habsburg Empire and southern Germany: https://mapire.eu/en/map/europe-18ce...4442.361501175
Does anyone know if there is something similar for Prussia/Saxony/central Germany?

Thomas Hemmann: For Saxony, there is for example the Petri map, which was used by all armies in the area in 1813. See https://www.deutsche-digitale-biblio...XQ3HGVNGF27PTA and http://www.ingenieurgeograph.de/Unte...Petrikarte.pdf
    And Streit's "Topographisch-militairische Charte von Teutschland in 204 Sectionen", published 1809: https://bvbat01.bib-bvb.de/TouchPoin...0451008%22+IN+[8]

Michael Lint: Slightly earlier, but I used this map to see how the terrain has changed from 18th century to now for Teugen, Hausen, and Thann.

    Downloadable books, magazines etc

Thanks to Markus Stein for posting on Napoleon Online "In addition to the old French magazine Le Passepoil, which is already available for download on Napoleon Online, another, but even less frequently available, magazine from around 1900 is to be made available. In addition to the more famous Carnet de la Sabretache and Le Passepoil, La Giberne is an important source for the uniform view of the French army from the Ancien Régime to the 2e Empire. La Giberne appeared before the First World War from 1899 to 1914 in a total of sixteen years under the direction of Louis Fallou, who is known to uniform artists for his work on the French Imperial Guard. The years 1821 to 1826 are also published here, which are lesser known, but could no longer build on the success of the old editions.

Well-known authors such as Commandant Picard, Capitaine Bottet, Quinto Cenni or E. Grammont prove the high quality of the published articles. In La Giberne, however, the numerous colour plates and above all detailed drawings of uniform parts and equipment, mostly by J. Hilpert, are particularly impressive, which are an important basis for the study of the French army.

A few years ago, a reprint appeared at the Quatuor editions, but because of the very high price it had only a small circulation of 80 copies. I would therefore like to thank once again the good friend Yves Martin, who will gradually provide the entire vintages of La Giberne as a scan. All the panels published in the originals are included. The copies I made were converted into searchable PDF files.

In the following table you will find the previously facsimile vintages with an overview of the contributions published therein from the (late) Ancien Régime to the end of the Napoleonic period. Contributions to other epochs can be found on the lists contained in each vintage. I moved the directories right to the beginning to give readers a quicker overview.

By clicking on the smaller board from the vintage or the word download, you can open the corresponding PDF file." http://www.napoleon-online.de/quellen_lagiberne.html

    Uniforms

    Prussia
Thanks to Markus Stein at Napoleon Online - Between 1814 and 1816, several uniform series were created in Paris with representations of the occupying forces, which were created by well-known French illustrators such as Martinet. A well-known editor of these series was Genty, who, in addition to series on French troops, also published several series on foreign powers.

Four larger series are titled Costumes Militaire and are dedicated to each of the powers that occupied France in 1815: Russia, Prussia, England and Austria, and other German states, respectively. Here the series on the Prussians, which bears the Subitel Infantry Prussienne, is to be published, but is not limited to the infantry.

This series thus represents an important contemporary source of the Prussian army of 1815 and was therefore also discussed in detail by Richard Knötel in his communications on the history of military costume for volume XVIII of his uniform studies, published in 1919. When the plates were numbered, the numbering was taken over in Glassers Costumes Miliitaire, published in 1900.

The series published here comes from a private collection, whose owner I thank for the approval to publish. If variants are known, especially from the collections of the Anne SK Brown Collection or the Army Museum in Brussels, these are described in the text.

    Uniforms

    Saxony

Markus Stein at Napoleon Online has posted the first of three series by the Viennese bookseller and publisher Franz Johann Josef Reilly (1766-1820) who published several uniform series at the end of the 19th century. they depicted the regiments of the different states on numerous panels. Among these is the lesser-known series History and Pictorial Representation of the Electoral Saxon regiments, which was published in 1797.

On 64 panels different units were drawn by an unknown artist, some with team type and officer on separate panels. In many units, the types are still accompanied by their garrison variety and their history. Similar to the depictions of the Prussian and Austrian armies, some of the Saxon soldiers are depicted in postures modelled on exercises.

In the notation of the unit names, a modern variant was chosen, after the list from the history of the Saxon Army from its establishment to the most recent time by Schuster/Francke, second part, published in Leipzig in 1885. There, on pages 223 to 224, there is a list of regiments and their garrisons at the end of 1796, i.e. around the same time as the series published by Reilly. The explanatory text for the units lists the detailed information from Schuster/Francke.

The original presented here is in the Lipperheide Costume Library of the Kunstbibliothek Berlin, which Markus thanks for the approval for publication. http://uniformenportal.de/index.php?...129&lang=en_GB
