Default PASSED[Artifex] Taro_M (patron: The Holy Pilgrim)

    Taro_M
    Dear Consilium de Civitate members,
I have been approached by Citizen Holy Pilgrim who offered to be my patron in order for me to become Artifex. To be honest I did not pay much attention to this kind of things as I spent pretty much all my time on TWC in sub mods section for Third Age mod, but I must say Im very happy that someone recognized my humble modding talents.

My work is pretty much solely focused on 3D modeling and texturing, Im self thought modeler so Im still learning and developing my talents, but I found 3D modeling to be really fun and pleasurable, as for me there is nothing better then actually see my creations do things, like run around or murder each other.

MTW2 is only game I “seriously” mod, 5 gigabytes of files only for my own modding materials and tools is testament of that I put a lot of work into that. I managed to grasp all of the skills required at modeling such as UV mapping, pretty advanced texturing, creating simple models (like shields) from scratch etc. I will not lie that I do everything myself, I greatly prefer use already created material, be it vanilla models and textures, materials from other mods etc. I do not have enough skills to do more complicated stuff, but in turn Im very good at far reaching modification to existing models.

My pet project Im currently work on is named “New Units for Gondor”, a submod for Third Age, I planned to expand Gondorian roster using ideas from Wlesmana’s Lord of the Rings: Total War mod for RTW, after obtaining permission to use ideas and descriptions I started working on my project, with few setbacks at start I managed to create really diverse roster. Since my skills still develop Im in process of recreating models that obviously didn’t quite work out at first. Im pretty much one man band on this project since I focused on creating models, creating mod was just an afterthought. Now looking at it I realized how massive it is and how much work I did: over 25 units with over 60 models (armor upgrades have visual effect on units apparince) and Im still working on it. I coopereated with great modeler Thumbnar in order to create for to use Gondorian Soldiers, then I used those models and textures to create some of my finest creations such as:
    Boromir:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=6848958#post6848958
My favorite character form Lord of the Rings, that is why he received so much love.
    Guards of the Steward:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=6847411#post6847411
Unique bodyguard unit, created especially for Boromir

    Winged Swordsmen: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=6843260#post6843260
    Heavily armored swordsmen unit

    Lamedon Nobles:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=7908405#post7908405
    Lossarnach Nobles:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=7771776#post7771776
Recently recreated models using materials from Rusichi

Another project, with is currently on hold, is TWC faction Mod. It was one of those silly ideas about creating faction representing TWC forum and putting it in Middle-Earth. It was most likely it would sunk into depths of TWC if I didn’t took into my hands to actually create some units. In the end we DID manage to create full faction with pretty decent roster. Please note that this wasn’t anything serious, just bunch of silly guys creating some wacky stuff. However, for me, this mod was also a testing ground. Here I created my first siege engine, tried my luck with animations and some more advanced coding.
Preview contains all of the units I created, while not much of look at it still have some interesting stuff that I really like, such as Admins, Rangers, Dread Legion or Giant PC.

While Im not great modeler, Im still learning and develop my talents. I hope that I will be good addition to community of Total War Center.

    The Holy Pilgrim
    Hello Consilium de Civitate members,
I would like to patronize Taro_M for the title of Artifex. Not only is he talented, he is also very creative. He actually began work (of which I just recently began helping with), on making a TWC faction for TATW version 1.4, and I must say that he represents all of the members/guests, good or bad, very well. He also made a wonderful Gondor mod which he added well over 50 new models. That is a great achievement, especially for a submod. With this information in mind, I do believe that he has made, and will continue to make, a wonderful contribution to the TWC through his wonderful models and textures.

    Thank you for your time,
    The Holy Pilgrim

And I'll be going to do my homework on this chap and endeavoring not to act like a dilweed... See there, nice paragraph...

Edit: Starting in March of 2009 the applicant has focused his attention on MTWII work, initially in Stainless Steel, then moving on to Third Age endeavors. Along the way he has shared his discoveries, queries, and work with others, while being respectful as well as helpful. Yes I did see a few verbal scraps with others but they were the usual modder misunderstandings {permissions and so forth} that we have all come to know and love. Posting when exhausted, cultural and language differences etc.

Folks who constantly strive for personal improvement, while sharing all their discoveries and works with us should be acknowledged and applauded for their continuing efforts...IMO...

Not being a modder and quite clueless about modding in it's entirety, I'll sit down, zip it, and see what others have to say....

    HIs units are amazing.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

Not being a modder, I miss the insights of Augustus Lucifer. I know the claim is for 50 units, but how much of a unit is his work and how much came before him? I may be out of my depth on this one.

    Magistrate Legio...

We the clueless non-modders.... To us that means bubbcuss, break it down like we are in kindergarden. Our general query is how much weight and deference should be given to the modding in this review. As VP says.. we seek something to hang our collective hats on
    besides ...Oooo, Oooo, look "Shiny"......

    Models are the bodies.

Hard to edit and harder to make.

Skins are the colors, faces, etc.

    I've used RTW schtuff.

But for M2 remember that there are more files for one skin- so more work. There's like 4 or 5 skin files for one unit. Not to mention you have to dick around with the modeldb file, WHICH IS A REAL ING

Haven't modded in ages, so people will have to call me out in the commentary. Anyway, that's the gist of it.

Oh, and Milkshape3d, the prog you use for M2 models, is a counterintuitive program. It will ruin your models with a vengeance. Or maybe just my models.

Anyway, lots of effort and excellent work for Taro.

Thank you, that's most illuminating... And remember folks...."the edit button" is your freind...

Now having heard that lesson regarding modding I'd say that the applicant's "looking Good" atm...
