    Default Changing descr_strat

    hi all ... i tried to make some minor changes in the descr_strat file today, but after saving I started up the game and nothing had changed.. what am I doing wrong ?
    I changed some starting positions at first, but later I tried just changing some names and still nothing changes.. plz help

    well, I tried without first but now I have tried both, still nothing seems to change...

    The reason I asked: Running setup again can void changes you made (depending on which files you made the changes to).

    You tell us u changed something in a descr_strat.txt and u tell us that it doesn't work.

    Plz be kind enough to tell us what u did edit and post the text from the file before and after text editing.

    well i changed it all back to normal since my changes didn't work, but i changed something new just to try, still doesn't work

    There are 3 descr_strat file files and maybe a 4h one in a folder called backup . Use search option on ss6.3 folder and you will find them .

    - First 2 files are in 2 folders called : early , and late . Those are the original ones that the game will copy to data folder (not sure if is data or other name like imperial campaign or campaign, i am not at home computer now) when you change campaign
    - 3'rd file is the one in data(*) and that one is the file the game uses .
    Same thing for other files like the one with campaign script.

    Is weird they chose it to be like this instead of making 2 different launchers .

    Weird? That way the launcher supports currently up to 8 different campaigns. Else you'd need a new launcher for every new campaign. Think of campaigns like 1450 or Italien peninsula or Britannia that can be easily added without fumbling around with 3 new additional launch systems.

    In that case is not weird , i only knew of early and late campaign in 6.3

    Just checked and no idea why its not in the feature list. Early and late are all there is at the moment but potentially it could look like this in a few months from now when campaigns haven been ported etc:

    Excuse the poor quality but I was to lazy to correctly photoshop / mess with the ini.

    Should definitly make lifes easier especially with the simple submod integration thats already used by quite a few mods. Well... that said, back to topic

    The term sub_faction is used only for Faction type slave so to use it for norway change it to:-
    character Jorgen , general, male, age 35, x 174, y 265 ;Skara

    so which of the different descr_strat am I to change if I play the late campaign?

    this one here if you will not run setup again to change campaign era

    SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

    In world\maps\base you must delete the map.rwm file for any major changes to the map to take place. Only minor changes (changing the traits of a general, not so sure about adding a few buildings to a settlement or adding extra units to an army) will carry over without doing this.

    If you don't want the change to be over-ridden when 'reinstalling' a SS 6.3 set-up, copy and paste your altered descr_strat.txt into the relevant data\campaign folder. That way it'll install your descr_strat.txt when you select that campaign.

    finally seems to work , thanks. but the names gone for the characters whose names i changed, are there more than two places where you need to change the name?

    There are three places where the names need to be located for them to work:

    Descr_names.txt,
    descr_names-lookup.txt ,
    names.txt

    If there names are in all three of those then the game will function. If you can't find them, they are all in the data or text folder of SS, but you could do a search.

    descr_names_lookup.txt is just a left over from RTW it's has no meaning nor is required in M2TW anymore.
