    Default Shields on the back.

    Another noob question.

There is quite a few soldiers who keep shields on their backs. For example:

Ottoman infantry while they fire missiles
    Dvor (cavalry and infantry)
    Pavaise crossbowmen

    And similiar.

Now as I'm let to know, soldier who have shield defence have additional shield def in front. And half in sides. But how it is with shield on the back? Do they get additional shield defence at the back and at the sides? Does it apply at all? or it is still shield defence from the front?

    Would be appriciated.

They dont have additional defence on back, I think. For example some archers have that thing with arrows on their back. There anything can be on their back (sword holder, shield, arrow thingy)

So shield counts from the front. Or it doesn't count at all if it is placed on the back. For example Dvor cavalary are running away from mongol heavy cav. It's natural that Dvor will be facing mongol horse archers with their backs. But shield of Dvor won't come into play in this situation?

Will +4 shield def count if Dvor cavalry will take shots from the front? or +4 def only apply then they will draw their axes?

There is additional defence from the shield mentioned in their infocards.

According to eggthief, it doesn't matter where it is on the model. It only applies to the front and left side of the formation (not the unit)

Yes that's right the shield bonus applies in the same areas in the same situations, the model has no bearing on it.

I seriously question that. The entire reason the Pavise type crossbows turn around when they reload is because it makes them near impervious to counter-fire from archers.

This game bases damage on the individual MODEL of the unit. Arrows have to physically hit the image of the unit. The location they hit determines what numbers are used to calculate the results. If the unit has a shield on their back, it uses that value on that side of the unit model.

Test it out if you wish. Get a unit of peasant archers vs a unit of pavise. Time the archers so they hit the pavise when they are facing forward. Now do the same and time it to hit when they are reloading (facing backward). Notice that only one of those times do you get any kills.

The game has 5 hit boxes for every model:Front,Right,Left,Behind,Top.

    The model doesn't effect hitboxes.

You can test this by making a custom model with a huge shield on their back and the same with no shield.
