Mongols just keep invading. Bug?

Hello everyone.

I'm new to this Forum (indeed, this is my first post) and I'm more or less a newbie to Medieval Total War II as well. I have MTW II installed with Kingdoms and the latest patch, as far as I'm aware.

Here is my question. The mongols just keep invading; is it a bug?

I'm playing the Grand Campaign as the Turks. So far, I've already destroyed two invading armies (four full 20 unit stacks each), though it has cost me an incredible amount of manpower and about a third of my generals. Also, they've sacked Baghdad and Mosul, though they did not capture it. I think they were on route to Antioch before I stopped them both times.

When I killed the last Mongol forces in the map, I even got the "Faction Destroyed" info, though they didn't vanish from the diplomacy list.

Now a *third* invading force has just spawned next to Baghdad (which still belongs to rebel seljuks).

Will they *ever* stop coming? Is it A Bug?

They keep coming for a few turns. The best technique to fighting them, is defend in siege battles. They get bottled up at the gates and if you have good spearmen, or good pikeman, just bottle them up at the gates and use heavy infantry. Don't worry too much about the walls, just have a good unit or two of heavy infantry, and than move them down to fight when all the attackers on the walls are dead.

You should get a total of between 10 and 12 armies. Sometimes they are not full armies, but can be 12 full armies. I have never seen more. Every time that you kill off all of their troops on the map you will get a faction destroyed message. So you should get that message 3 times. However, once I played LTC and the third wave never came on even by 1550 A.D.; but this was clearly an aberration. Timurids are the same.

I was able to fend off the last Mongol wave. They finally attacked me in a bridge battle... In the end both of us withdrew to opposite sides of the bridge and stayed there till the time ran out, but all of their familly members perished in the battle, so the army scattered off.

Can't wait for the Timurid invasion...

Mongolian and Timurid invasion is a scripted event and it is a hording faction they won't die or destroyed till all of their family members have emerged and then killed or assassinated.

If they take settlements, they can quickly reproduce and then they become incontrolable right?

Yes u can say but it really depends if it's castle or a city and what level. Like they conquer a town that ain't a big deal.
But mongols and timurids once capture a settlement can adopt generals as they have a family tree as well.
So yeah we have to make sure if playing as a East European faction that they never find a base to recruit and prosper.

welcome
and get used to those barbarians. they're real headache
sometimes you'll have 9 full stacks outside your cities.

I use guerrila style. maybe is not so glamorous but its efective and I
loose very few troops

Best is to defend citadels. The mongols ALWAYS, EVER bring lots of Trebuchets for some reason, so they'll usually blast a few holes in your walls, but they are allways terribly weakened when they get to the third wall.

I think it's a shadow

Nah it's a subfaction of Russia, "The black bear" you get to control some of the indigineous animals of the Russian wastes, the steppes and surround area, incl a 60 bear unit of black bears, 40 Reindeer cavalry and 30 heavy polar bears
