Can't load old saved games

Hi I recently ininstalled Rome Total War and BI after having not uninstalled this mod and I can't load any of my previous saved games. Normally I would be "ok what ever I will just start a new game", but last time I uninstalled Rome without uninstalling EB and there was no problem playing my previous saved games, also I have three great games going as Pontus, the Aedui and the Pahlava and I would like to continue them, would rather not start new games as them to get to where I already was, especially Pontus.

Oh also I reinstalled EB after discovering that I couldn't load my previous saved games and when I try to load the old saved games it dosn't show the faction symbol like it usually does when you are loading the game.

Three things I can think of:

1. Have you installed EB 1.2 correctly (to ...\Rome - Total War)? You shouldn't have an EB folder inside your EB folder.
2. The old save games are from an older EB version.
3. The save games have gone corrupted over time (happens rarely, but still too often with RTW save games).

I have just found I have exactly the same problem - have you found the solution yet? I have tried troubleshooting as above but the only answer I can come up with is that they have somehow been corrupted.

Just out of interest when you try and load the games does just go to the loading screen then straight back to the main menu?

So if you

• don't have a false installation (EB folder inside EB rights as Mediolanicus says)
• and loading a save from 1.1 under 1.2
• and starting a new campaign works just fine
• and there are no mini-mods installed you used the other time or vice versa

you have these endings which come to my mind:

1. try to load them under BI
2. upload them here so other can verify they are corrupt/fine for them
3. take them as corrupt
4. make yourself a note to always keep multiple saves of your campaign, and if you de-install EB and/or RTW copy them to a safe haven twice

One thing that may be the problem is that I was playing EB just on RTW when I made the saves. I then installed BI, but I still ran it on RTW.exe when it started not working. Now neither exes work (RTW or BI).

However, I then permanently deleted my RTW exe by mistake, meaning that now if I uninstall BI I won't have any exe to run it on.

A bit of a mess, I know.

I was wondering firstly what my problem might be, and then what is needed to be done, whether it be uploading my saves to see whether they are the only problem, or trying to dowload a new RTW exe from somewhere.

You deleted RTW, but did not uninstall it?

Yeah, that's bit of a mess... Because now you can't reinstall it... Because it was never uninstalled and you can't have two installs.
You need to delete to rome.ini file... But I can't really explain how to do that... Doing a search on google might turn up something.

Is there anyway I could download the exe file? It wouldn't be illegal as it isn't a crack or anything. Could you guys upload yours or would that not work? No problem if that's not ok.

That would indeed be illegal and you shouldn't talk on these forums about such topics.

Manually delete the left things, try to re-install. If it comes with an error, open regedit and delete the registry entires made by CA (at your own risk).
Saves from RomeTW can be played on BI, the other way can cause problems in some instances.

Ok, sorry for that, I made that mistake in complete honesty.

I think though that it is all a bit too much effort and a bit risky so I will start my campaigns again, but thanks so much for all your help.

I have an Issue. I had an old copy of RTW installed and I am not sure what version (was on my CPU when I got it and now I am adicted). I assume it was 1.5 as I had installed EB 1.2 and it was working great (I had just got my Marian Reforms and turned my sights on Ptolemaioi, currently we are in a no-holds bar war over Asia Minor).

Anywho my windows crashed and I reformatted. I went to get a new copy of RTW, and it is the Gold Edition. After install it said 1.3 but I couldnt get 1.5 patch to install (said it was incompatible), after reading that the Gold Edition should be 1.5 out of box I went ahead with Installing EB 1.2 with no problems (can start a new campaign, save it and load it).

Problem is now I can't load my saved game!!! I have a back up of it, I can see it in the Load Campaign Menu, but the load screen comes up "loads" very fast and then back to main menu.

Can I fix this? Is it because of the RTW version I have now? Does it matter if the .sav file is in a different directory than it was originally?

Help!! I have Eqyptian butt kicking to do!

Please upload this save, I'll give it a try on my build.
If RTW crashes there is a chance that all data in the save is corrupted, in that case your campaign is gone.
