Icon5 Is it possible to alter the starting year?

I can never seem to get to 1492, I've always either lost or already won or become so powerful I stopped playing...is there a way to change the starting year of a late campaign?

And if so is there a max late end point that will mess up the game if I make it too far into the future?

Starting and end dates are governed by the descr_strat.txt file in SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign. However you cant make changes to an existing campaign, only to new ones.

    Hmm I changed:

    start_date 1475 summer
    end_date 1830 winter
    timescale 2.00

And when I started a new campaign the year was still 1100...

If you're running Vista or Win7, have you got UAC turned off or running 6.3 from a non Program Files folder?

How do I turn off UAC? I am also running the game from Program Files86/Sega something, does that matter?

Turn User Account Control on or off

Yes, the program folder receives special protection by the system meaning it automaticly reverses changes made to it it deems "unauthorized". Aka any modding...

Strange, so it should be possible? I moved the game to my desktop and changed the start year again but it is still loading as 1100 for some reason...my UAC was off, too.

Cool, it seems to have worked now...I kept running setup after I changed the info and of course that was resetting it.

So I'm guessing if I start an "early" campaign after the invention of gun powder I'll never get gun powder units?

What year is gun powder invented?

You will. Events are tied to years after the campaign starts, not specific dates. If you want to edit the year that events fire, the file is descr_events.txt in SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

That's why I put all my games in the C: folder, easier to mod on Vista... it hates the program files folder haha

The new world isn't in Stainless Steel, mate.

Hmm I just tried to run the uninstall and it said successful but then the game loaded to the main menu when I ran launcher, so I'm not sure uninstall works...anyway I realized I screwed up all my years and stuff so I was going to reinstall but then I realized i changed a few other things I would rather not have to go back and do again...can anyone please email me the vanilla descr_events.txt file? I forgot to save it before I made changes...I copied descr_strat and not descr_events.

EDIT-- are any of the events altered for SS? If not I could probably just copy and paste my original MTW2 events file.

First off... the original MTW2 events file IS the vanilla descr_events.txt file. You don't mean it like that but thats what "vanilla" normally means. Vanilla refers to the game out of the box.
Second, you already uninstalled (at least parts) of Stainless Steel. Unless you actually uninstalled the OLD uninstaller from the 6.1,6.2 versions your installation is already corrupted so the one file wont "cut it".
Doublecheck your uninstallation routine and then report back.

Well the folder that says "Uninstall" in the SS6.3 mods folder is now empty but the rest of the mod seems to be there because I just loaded it somehow...I uninstalled the Teutonic, Americas, and Crusade campaigns via the start menu uninstall option that comes with the game but I can't even drag the files I moved from program files86/SEGA onto the desktop OR into the trash because it says I need permission to perform the action and apparently I don't have it LOL
