    Default Diokletians soldiers

Tonight I was watching the procession of Emperor Diocletian, with his guards and legionaries trough the Streets of Split, in Croatia. It is anuall celebration in his honor in front of his palace in Split, or something.

That made me wonder, does anyone know how the legions actually looked like during his life?

Do you have any photos of this procession? It would be fun to see.

It seems as if it's just a few "enthusiasts" who does this on their own initiative. That the public is allowed to literally walk all over them kind of spoils the whole illusion, doesn't it?

    No no, it is "organised"

First, there were a chariot with white horses running inside a Diocletian ad his wife *which is every year current miss of Croatia) and before them som guards, then standard barer, again some guards with finest equipment then army...

It's well worth a visit. I have happy memories of prowling through the streets of Split 30 years ago, studying the remains of Diocletian's Palace.

If your in Croatia it might be worth heading north to Pula, nice place, with a virtually intact ampitheater by the sea. Pula was known as the 'City of Tombs', so many Emperors and nobles were buried there.

Pula? I hadn't realised it was that interesting. I will try and see if I can visit it in the near future.
