Crash on Start Up

Every time I start up NTW it hangs on the first loading screen for around 20 seconds, and then crashes and Windows 7 says it isn't responding. Can anyone help please?

i have the most logic explenation (cause it happens with me also all the time) : you made a mod which aint good (don't know a better sentence in english) example: you modded the unit size fromt 160 to 157 , so the game will crash cause it is invalid because when the unitsize is set on small you will get 39.25 (and a unit which excists for only 25% doens't excists) this is only an example, you will possible modded something else

Do you use mods? You could potentially have a combination of them that are causing the crash.

"I don't mod" means you do not make mods yourself (which is what woto asked). Perhaps you made something wrong in a mod you made.... this was the thought. The verb form of to mod refers to making them.

I asked if you use mods (not create them), because there are combinations of (otherwise perfectly functioning) mods that might cause a CTD. This is a perfectly legit question to ask and is not the same question as woto's.

No Sweat bro, just trying to clear it up. I have read about people's games hanging on loading, so perhaps you can find others with the same problems there.

Try deleting the scripts file found in the AppData/Roaming/Creative Assembly/Napoleon/ and then go into properties in Steam and validate the game cache.

so ive got pretty much the same problem...i just got the game but when i start it up it just freezes on the copyright statements page and ive deleted the scripts file and just tryed to c if that would work alone cause idk how to validate the game cache..help would be appreciated

Well I have same problem and have tried your solution and it still no better. Still crash at the copyright screen. I have a desktop on Win Vista and it works find. My new laptop which suppose to stronger as twice as my desktop on Win 7 64 bit freeze on screen.
The Total War official forum didn't let me post a topic on it and I've found none of the related topics. So, I come here to try my luck. Hope that someone may know how to fix this problem.

Do any of you set your your firewall/security permissions to let Steam and Napoleon through?
Are you logged in as Administrator?
Have you installed directx 9.0c, C++ 2005 SP1, and .Net 4?
