    Default I Fail

I thought I'd post this interesting scenario that happened to me today that has taught me a lesson in humility.
As the Romani and the year being 248 BC my most experienced legion albeit led by a relatively new general with great potential is depleted from the recent siege of Messana and a recent field battle just outside of it. With a huge Carthaginian mercenary army in southern Italy I tried my luck at attacking Lilybaeum by surprise as it only had a garrison of about 6 units. I move my tired army towards the city and wait until the next season to regain my movement points and commence the siege. But the Carthaginians wanted otherwise. During their turn they attack my legion with a force about three and a half times as big as mine comprised of soldiers perphaps just below the skill of mine, but still a force to be reckoned with. I'm not going to describe exactly how the battle proceeded but the results were extraordinary. I routed the enemy army killing about 90% of them with only 10% of my army being slain. Some of you experienced players are thinking "Meh, I do that **** in my sleep" but nonetheless to me it was epic. I pressed the Print Screen button for a screenshot of the results (which for some reason is just turning up as a solid black screen on paint, as well as all my other ones. Maybe someone can help me here) and after I alt-tab'ed out of EB, and failed to paste it on paint when I tried to go back to EB and the screen would just flicker back and forth between a black screen and the desktop and I was forced to restart my PC.
Discuss, maybe tell me why my screenshots aren't turning out and laugh at me if you feel like it.
P.S Maybe some rep would make me feel better...actually it wouldn't...

You shouldn't use the print screen method, it s you up in the long run. Use FRAPS.

and btw since you're polish I'll give you rep

    care to share your strategy?

this is how i win most battles easily, even when im outnumbered big time. have foot soldiers, preferably heavy infantry or phalanx form a line. then have the enemy attack your line, or if you're attacking, attack their line. best is to have the enemy army run a lot, because exhausted armies are easy to kill or rout. while having your line attack their line, or while they are moving towards each other, use heavy cavalry to go around their army and kill their general. if he's too close to their army, just lure him away with a lone unit of cavalry, preferably weak ones like missile cavalry. then when the enemy line has engaged yours, you just line up a of cavalry behind them and charge into their backs until they rout, having your cavalry pause for a while if they become winded, they become fresh again, because cavalry charges work a lot better if they're not exhausted.

that's basically my formula for winning every battle and it's made the game kind of boring.

I started reading expecting a defeat or something only to see you pulled it off lol... well done.

I had a similar experience, although mine didn't go as well. Had a full legion (with artillery and auxilia and cavalry and everything) and a promising General who was going to be my choice to earn the cognomen Germanicvs attack a stack stationed outside a German city which also had a full garrison. Their troops weren't amazing, but they had good heavy germanic cavalry. To cut a long story short, I wanted to deal with each stack at a time on the battle map, but when I engaged the first stack (in a small forest to complicate things), I could not kill their general, my cavalry charges weren't having their usual effect, to the result that their first stack hadn't buckled and by the time the second stack came along and completely destroyed my units. I was very very lucky to manage to escape with my general alive (with 5 soldiers) and my Legionary eagle with its first cohort left with 17 men.

First defeat in a long time, first defeat with a full legion, and it has definitely taught me a lesson in humility.

@pspguy123 Thanks, ya I've been thinking of installing that on this PC but I can't find this trial version disk I got for free...

@s0meguy I basically tried to go for Hannibal's double envelopment strategy but the problem was besides my general I had no cavalry so I basically spread my battle line out thin with the center a little bit behind the flanks and stacked my most experienced triarii on the wings. After their wings routed I circled around the middle and encircled the center with my general protecting their backs. Romani have excellent infantry but those equites just can't stack up.

@knofoda I also have the most trouble commanding in forests since first of all i can't see my units and basically command from a zoomed in mini-map, and secondly I'm no good with ambush tactics.

FRAPS is free broski. You don't need any CD or anything to install it.

Oh, alright. I thought so but then I said to myself "Then why would they give out a CD." Whatever...

    Thanks Broska

Fraps is completely free and takes virtually no space or memory.

And yeah, alt tabing sometimes gives you that, it's really frustrating when it happens because of an anti-virus pop up or a skype contact.

For me, "update DivX player" is the bane of my TW sessions. It's like a CTD only worse, since you can't get into TW but you have to close it yourself. It makes YOU pull the trigger. I've had some seriously cool wins nobbled by this, including one as Makedon in the early stages when Epirous sent a large army with elephants at my city in Thessalia. I javelinned their elephants to death before they got to ramming my walls in, and they ran amok rather than fleeing, so I was free to snipe their army while their elephants ran around like headless chickens. DivX player is ready to update. Commense annoyance, swearing, and a curse upon the firstborn of DivX.

Speaking of making screenshots, I used Fraps and put the pictures on Photobucket so I could put them in this forum. The pictures came out somewhat blurred and quite small. I saw much larger screenshots here. What am I doing wrong?
