Default Abbasid Caliphate - The Islamic equivalent of The Pope?

I see that there is indeed a submod for the Abbasid Caliphate who were a very real and very powerful faction during this time. The Caliphate was seen as the titular head of Islam, and the other Sultanates, even if with resent, paid homage to him.

Would it be possible to create a mod that would build an Islamic equivalent of the Pope System for the Sultanates? (Also adding the Abbasid Caliphate in... Taking up most of the southeastern Middle East (which has incorrectly been given to Independents and Seljuks).

Yeah but you would have to make a poll to vote wich faction must go then....

There is currently a faction slot open, they would just not have unique units. And he doesn't need a poll, it's his final choice. Mods are not a democracy

But I'm pretty sure that crusades are not editable, and that you can only have one set of factions that have a religion rating like catholic crosses etc.

Yes it's possible to add a faction. No it's not possible to make them like the papal states. That part of the game is hardcoded.

not to meantion that by the 12th century the abbasid caliph had no sway over the islamic factions..... a basic look at their relationships with the other islamic faction was...

Turks : they were a puppet of the great Seljuik ... though after they decline they regain some independence but still nominally under the Turks' "protection"

Khwarmid: After the Great Seljuik fell apart they rised up in Persia and attempted to take over as the "protector". though their attempt was defeated by bad weather, and before they could try again some dude called Temujin showed up.

Fatimid : the Fatimid themself are a seperate Caliph. the relationship between them and the Abbasid were like the Catholic church vs the Orthodox Church.

Moors : see Fatimid , though nomially they were part of the ole Ummayad Caliph.
1180, an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity in East Asia, it's technology and wealth is the envy of the world. But soon conflict will engulf the entire region with great consequences and lasting effects for centuries to come, not just for this region, but the entire known world, when one man, one people, unites.....

I've done a little bit of research for an Abbasid Caliphate minimod I'm doing for DLV, and around 1080 the Abbasids were actually in somewhat of a decline. Not that they didn't exist, only that other powers had weakened them, defeating them in battle and widdling away at their outlying regions.

But maybe it'd be fun to make them an underdog. They can probably use units from other Muslims factions, and I think Alpha Delta at BC said his work on the Abbasids is available for other mods.

The Caliph was paid homage to for a short period after 1100 by the Sunni Muslims. The Abbassids were effectively autonomous vassals of the Seljuqs, there's no point in making them a faction. The Seljuqs certainly didn't kowtow to the caliph if it did not suit them.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."
