    Hey, Slay4496
    You can see on unit card. Or press pause and double click or right click on unit.

    Regards

    If it is your unit, then the upgrades will be seen on the unit card in your User Interface as either a sword (weapon upgrades) a shield (armor upgrades) or chevrons (experience upgrades). these will vary in quality by being either bronze, silver or gold. In a battle, looking at a certain unit, provided you have the unit banners on, there will be little flags over the unit to symbolize how many upgrades they have. Does this help?

    I think the amount of little flags tell the amount of experience a unit has earned. But indeed the unit card is the most accurate.
    Counted from none-upgraded/experience:
    Shield:
    Bronze = +1 defence
    Silver = +2 defence
    Gold = +3 defence
    Sword:
    Bronze = +1 attack
    Silver = +2 attack
    Gold = +3 attack
    Experience:
    1 stripe bronze = +1 attack and defence
    2 stripes bronze = +2 attack and defence
    3 stripes bronze = +3 attack and defence
    1 stripe silver = +4 attack and defence
    2 stripes silver = +5 attack and defence
    3 stripes silver = +6 attack and defence
    1 stripe gold = +7 attack and defence
    2 stripes gold = +8 attack and defence
    3 stripes gold = +9 attack and defence
    Each stripe of experience also adds a certain amount of morale and stamina.

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    You can get the bronze and silver sword and shield upgrade via armouries, gold is only availlable for certain temples I believe.
    Experience is gained via temples as a standard if troops are trained in the city with that temple (mostly of war gods like Mars, Woden and Donar), but the most experience is gained through battles! So don't let your troops rout that easily!
    Morale is gained by more experience and by influence of your general, the enemies general and the status of the battle. Winning = more morale, losing = less morale. Special stuff like elephants, flaming arrows, artillery fire, chariots etc. can also negatively influence the opposing army.

    I put this in a spoiler because it wasn't really the answer you asked for, but it's just to fill up my answer above the spoiler. can be usefull I guess.

    Just pointing out the difference between the defense upgrade and a veterancy upgrade's merits for survivability...
    Defense ups the armour and veterancy the skill... veterancy ups don't save em from arrows.

    Each little flag on a unit, like the picture shown represents a single upgrade or experience.
    No idea why some people are talking about unit cards, when he's asked specifically about flags.
    Any way to flaunt your own ignorance I guess.
    Smilies...the resort of those with a vacuous argument

    The post mentions flags but it's not clear exactly what the poster was asking about. Therefore, they had a variety of responses.

    I'm not sure where you get the ignorance bit to be honest. Maybe, if someone was rude to the OP for thier style of posting maybe.....

    The question above is marked, this means the question is quite clearly not?

    This is what was posted:

    "Heyy how can you tell when a unit has upgrades some guy online said it was the flags but im still not sure "

    Where is an enemy unit even mentioned in that?

    The only mention of online is that someone told the OP that - not that it was for an MP game.

    Clearly, it's possible to take multiple meanings from the details as posted......

    He can't possibly be so weak that he does not know about his own unit cards. The moment i bought an upgrade for the first time back in 04 I realized that the things show up as a little bronze, silver or yellow thing on its card. He said he plays online and you can not see the enemy's unit cards online. Hence he must be told about the little flags first and foremost.

    And why are we making such an argument out of this. This thread should have died after gaedhel wanderer explained both ways to him.

    There are all sorts of people on the forum that ask questions about very obvious things.

    As I've pointed out the OP's post wasn't clear. It's possible to read virtually anything into the post, therefore, a variety of answers have been supplied.

    I've just seen this thread - the first post in particular:

    While there isn't anythng vague about the question raised - it does make you wonder about some posters.
