Communism. why is it so cool yet so unworkable?

Yeah, Human nature is agianst the idea of not having a leader, there will always be someone who wants to rule. Lenin for example wnated to go to communism via his "Dictatorship of the Proletariat" now, if that doesnt sound like a power hungrey ruler who doesnt give a jot about thwat happens to his country after he dies then i dont know what does.

Guderian i totally agree with you. Being an american i have been taught on the subject from a perspective that downplays the communist beliefs/ideals. however i think that true communism, a communism without the greed of leaders who use the communist ideals to set up their government then once in power they seize power for themselves, would be profitable to many of the poorer nations.isnt one of the ideals that everyone is equal and they all wok toward the greater good of the country? however i can't say i know alot about communism because i rarely see a work supporting it and i want to understand it alot better before i really start discussing this topic, until later....

And I don’t mean to have a pop at you but you clearly haven’t done reading around the subject have you? Do you even know who Carl Marx is? And you say its ‘cool’ likes its fashionable or something but do you know how many people have died under communist regimes? The true figure will never be known but it is around the 100 million mark, which if you compare to the most satanically and evil government of the 20th century i.e. the Nazi party/National Socialists who killed 6 million Jews as well as over people they didn’t like you will soon get realise why communism isn’t cool.

i know exactly about communism and how more people died under it then both world wars put together do not get me wrong over that i know the full horrow about it and all as some of my family was evicted by the bolsheviks. and yes i do know karl marx as its spelt with a K at the beginning

the image Communism recieves is mainly due to the Americans imho. they were totaly anti commie......so Students (like myself) would have been pro-communism, merley to **** off the gov't

as a side note, Karl Marx would have hated Russian Communism, and would have loved Nicaragua.
according to Marx, Russia could never become a Communist State, and it never was, it was Leninist and Stalinist, never Communist.

The closest the world has come to Communism is nicargua, and that was hated by the US, so much so they gave arms to the rebels, but they do that with everyone, britain is just as bad (i think we sell like 80% of the worlds landmins, or we did at one stage)

It does work, yet it is really, really hard. You need people in power that aren't demagogues for a start, and they have to be honest. When you put greedy people in power in a collective government, it ruins everything.

This is how communism failes:

You take one of the the worlds poorest countries (pre-soviet Russia) and one of the worlds richest countries (the US) and have a race.
If communism can't turn the poorest country into the richest in just 6 decades then surely it has "failed", and we can kleep beleiving capitalism is much better.

Also, when a communist country evolves it's breaking the rules.
So China is disqualified even IF it overtakes the US.

But be aware of people who want to compare the performance of Russia to countries of equal level of wealth.
Or, even worst, compare growth rates in stead of absolute numbers.

Like the Nazi's the Soviets were masters at using images to express a feelings and ideas.
Most Russians were illeterate so they HAD to use sympost and movies to explain what they stood for.
Most of the techniques used to day in Hollywood movies are derived from the Soviets.

So why is it "cool"? Because it's designed to be cool.
Nazi symbols are "cool" too but in the west people are much too negative of what the Nazi's did, and they aren't so negative about the soviets who did many good things too.

the race didnt really begin until after the second world war. Even though the entire west was terrified of the soviet union they did not act untill it had become a full super power excluding the russian civil war when they were moer interested in keeping russia in the war.

Karl Marx would have hated China’s communism. A lot of China’s infrastructure has been built up on the back of Capitalist investment. Years ago you were guaranteed to get permission to fly over China’s airspace let alone setup a factory.
