So, the pope called for a crusade, but, how do I join it?

first, make sure that you have a General with at least five or six units... then go out in the field (not in a settlement) and double click on him... you should get up the mercenary window... now at the bottom there is a button that says Join Crusade or similar.... presto!
also, you MUST be a catholic faction and NOT excommunicated....![]()
I think it's 8 units (7 + general) to join a crusade.
Also, note that if you're playing with Byg's Grim Reality enabled, joining a crusade will cost you 5000 treasury and 5000 personal wealth for each general that joins.
For as long as your faction leader doesn't join the crusade, EVERY general will pay a religious war tax of 400 personal wealth per turn. If your FL doesn't join before the end of the time limit, your generals will be forking out until the crusade succeeds, or is called off - In my experience, your generals will go bankrupt, and get exiled VERY quickly.
About crusades, i always wondered why aren't there crusades against orthodox factions?

So... your wondering why there are no christian crusades agains orthodox christians?
I'm not that firm on that topic but I'm pretty sure that they differ in other aspects then which god they believe in. Actually Pope Innocent III first reaction to the Fourth Crusades conquering of Constantinople was quite negative. But as always....When Innocent III heard of the conduct of his pilgrims, he was filled with shame, rage and strongly rebuked them.
Pope Innocent III, the man who had unintentionally launched the ill-fated expedition, thundered against the crusaders"Whats done is done, now gimme the money..."Nevertheless, the Pope's negative reaction was short-lived. When the crusaders took the piles of money, jewels, and gold that they had captured in the sack of Constantinople back to Rome, Innocent III welcomed the stolen items and agreed to let the crusaders back into the Church.
yeah i know that Bane_TW......But i mean more in the game, i never saw a crusade against an orhodox faction or never could choose such a settlement of orthodox christians to propose as a crusade target...while HRE always got a crusade against them (always in game, never in reality). Or is this just in my case?

The only way for a crusade on a christian faction to happen is excommunication. As the orthodox can't be excommed you could say its hardcoded. The whole crusade system is strange anyways... basicly a ingame cheat system in my eyes. One crusade and I can capture 6 rebel settlements or more on the way to the target. With zero army upkeep.
Don't say it is hardcoded?
Yep, i overlooked the excommunication proces....that explains it. A shame it isn't possible.
But Bane_TW when i played the original MTW2 game and i opend the factions standing with the pope on turn 1, there was also a papal rating for byzantium. But after turn 2 or 3 byzantium dissapears in the papal rating, just want to mention this issue.
