    Default SS and xfire compatible?

Are SS and xfire compatible? I used to be able to use the xfire ingame and take xfire screenshots on my old windows xp comp. But now on my windows 7 comp I can't. I tried changing the detect line for kingdoms, but no luck. Anyone else have this problem and have any solutions? Using SS 6.3

    Old comp with windows xp/SS 6.1 & 6.2 = worked fine.
    New comp with windows 7/SS 6.2 & 6.3 = doesnt work.
Is it probably a windows 7 issue then? cause 6.2 worked on one and not the other.

Based on that I'm thinking its windows 7. Is there no way to start xfire manually?

i've seen it too, but i use vista. Can play ss6.1 ss6.2 by Gracul and ss6.3 but not ss6.2 with RR/RC.
Checked the path were you installed?
    Drivers ?

When I downloaded SS again for my new comp I went straight to 6.2 RR/RC, and then now up to 6.3

There is no way to start Xfire manually it's a Hardware feature that requires restart.

I have 2 ATI cards in crossfire and i have no problem in playing M2TW.
SS 6.3 or any other version is no different than any other other mod coz it employs kingdoms.exe to launch itself.

Now about the screenshots which image capturing tool are u using?
Do u get a complete black screenshot when playing on in Xfire mode?

If so i had the similar issue it's the latest ATI driver not SS or M2TW that are responsible for it.

Anyways the remedy is go in the ATI control panel and set Catalyst AI to be disabled and then u can take screenshots. Noramlly the first jey press always generates a black one but the second third screen capture works fine for me.
If u are specifically after capturing screenshots rather then gameplay then play the game in windowed mode but be advised your game will run sluggish on battle game having insane no. of troops.

You guys have to keep in mind that M2TW is an old game that uses a single core on CPU even if u have a i7-975 but that's irrelevant to the matter at hand.
Windows XP uses XPDM while vista uses WDDM1.0 and Windows 7 employs the use of WDDM 1.1. This is a major reason old games give problems of windows 7 and latest hardware coz the game was designed on XPDM.

Another cause would be that u might be using outdated version of DX9 on your PC. Windows XP uses DX9 while by default Windows 7 have DX11 and when playing M2TW on it DX9 is used which has to be updated to the latest version in order to eliminate any DX9 issues when playing DX9 compatible games.

Sorry I fear thats a mixup caused by a common shorthandle...
xfire (pronounced "X-Fire"[1]) is a freeware instant messaging service targeted at gamers, that also serves as a game server browser and has various other features. It is currently available for Microsoft Windows. Xfire was originally developed by Ultimate Arena based in Menlo Park, California. Xfire currently has over 16.7 million registered users.[2]
    Game detection

Xfire features the ability to detect the video game a particular contact is running. By analyzing running processes, Xfire can detect active games and send that information to Xfire clients with the current player as a friend. For many games, it can also detect which server people are playing on, the level which is running and ping times. Some games may be joined instantly. Xfire logs what games users are playing, how many hours they have played them, and saves other information (such as scores) from game servers. This information can be converted into a PNG image by the server via PHP for every user to use as a signature.

6.3 has actually seems to have some things to consider when it comes to crossfire from what I read.
But as I'm clueless about that and as this is about the program xfire and not the hardware lets just leave it at that

    Xfire

Oh i'm extremely sorry bane_tw i was thinking Xfire= ATI Crossfire(multi-GPU) setup. I confused it with a software.
    Sorry.

So maybe its just a windows 7 problem and there is no way around it?

Well - the only sure way is to test 6.3 on your old pc. If it works there...

Well it still looks to me like this is a Win7 issue:

I use Fraps to take screenshots with 6.3 on Win7. It works great.

Problem is that Xfire is more then fraps - it also has ingame chat for example.
    Instant messages

Xfire is most notable for its ability to send and receive instant messages from inside a game in fullscreen mode, eliminating the need to minimize the game window. Users can also send in-game messages to other players without joining the game and are also able to see what games their friends are playing. When a user is not playing a game and wish to join a friend who is, Xfire can launch the game and join the friend's server automatically.
I'm guessing thats another (major) reason why Vespasian92 is using it.

Ahh I see. I am unfamiliar with Xfire. I was assuming from the thread that it was just a screenshot app like Fraps.

Sounds like an interesting concept though for multiplayer users.
