CTD during loading screen

First of all I want to congratulate you with this excellent mod.
However, one thing is preventing me from completly enjoying it.
I havn't encountered any problems with the campaign or battle map.
But I do have problems with the loading screen, but probably the loading itself.
When the bar is around 1/3 or 1/2 loaded I sometimes get a crash; the screen turns black for a second and than I have a CTD.
What I'm loading doesn't matter because it sometimes even happens when the game tries to load the main menu.
I have the 2.6 version of this mod.
My computer is a windows XP and it has decent enough specs. to run this game, havn't had such problems with the original game.

I hope you'll can help so I'll be able to enjoy this mod to the fullest.

There is no bug in the mod that could cause this that I know of, especially if it happens on random loading screens, like the menu one. Perhaps it has to do with your memory being drained by the game?

I'm glad to hear it's not a bug.
If the real problem is my memory, which advise would you give me on how to solve it?

It's pretty rare to have memory issues with RTW these days, it's a quite old game. And it's weird to have those issues with a mod, but not with RTW vanilla, as resources-wise not much is different between the two.

An idea would be to try replacing the preferences file of the game with the vanilla one (keep a backup of the fatw's one) and see what happens. There are also applications like GameBooster that 'manage' your system's memory allocation while you're playing games so that the games have more resources and perform better. Perhaps try one of those?

I tried changing the preference file and it seems to work.
I havn't had any crashes anymore and the game seems to load a lot faster.
The auto-save also works again, which is handy.
