    Default Diplomatic Question

If England is allied to the HRE
and France is allied to the HRE
and Denmark is allied to both England and France

    England declares war on France

will the HRE side against the aggressor?
will Denmark side against the aggressor?

or is entirely based off of relations and reputations?

Reason I ask is it seem the faction being attacked seems to be more likely to keep their alliances with the 3rd party, when the 3rd party is allied to both belligerents.

Yes relations and reputation do come into play. It also has to do with what campaign AI you're using.

Its based on relation and strongly reputation of your own with them. Frances relation with them also effects it. But something else could effect it unknown (Like crusader states never brake the alliance with the papal states for anyone else for some reason) But being perfect with Danemark and germany and a very good reputation should make them pick you over france.

It also has to do with whos more powerful (if it is a big margin)

But these are just my experiences.

Reason I ask is if I side with England, less of a threat for the HRE who Im playing, we seem to be the odd ones out. Because others break alliances with England before France even though England is distant and cant border cross of do the other things that cause bad rep. But I guess they less likely to gain good rep too. Then I help England and gain land for myself and I lose my alliances. Im trying to wait awhile before going to war, other than crusades so I was thinking on how I could manipulate alliances so I dont get stuck with an unpopular ally.

I hate picking the wrong ally in the long run. Well it will tell you who Danemark sided with, so just side with them and you have a trio Hopefully they side with england though so you can invade france and have one solid power.
